After a year away from the professional scene, Eya Laure’s return to the PVL was met with high anticipation, especially after joining the Choco Mucho Flying Titans.
Laure made an immediate impact in her debut against the Akari Chargers, finishing with 11 points built on 8 attacks, 2 aces, and 1 block, along with 9 excellent receptions and 5 excellent digs. However, a minor groin and abdominal strain soon hampered her campaign, limiting her rhythm throughout the conference.
The Flying Titans’ run came to an end in a grueling five-set loss to the Chargers, 15-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-15, 19-21, in the play-in tournament, relegating the former to a seventh-place finish overall.
Eya Laure Acknowledges Frustrations After Uneven Comeback
Following the defeat, Eya Laure admitted the frustration of not being able to consistently perform at her best due to injury.
“Yeah, frustrating kasi may mga laro na gusto ko pang maglaro more, na kung anong kaya kong gawin, lalo na kung ano yung nagawa ko versus Creamline,” she said. “Siyempre, malungkot kasi gusto ko pang maglaro. Ayoko pang magbakasyon. As in everyone, lahat kami ganun ’yung nasa isip,” she added.
Instead of a smooth return, Laure described her comeback as a process filled with setbacks and constant adjustments.
“I feel like nandoon na ako, pero may mga nangyari na okay, back to zero ulit tayo. Hindi naman sobrang back to zero, pero stop na naman tayo—kailangan mag-rehab, kailangan magpalakas ulit ng injury,” she explained. “Pero ayun eh, part talaga siya. Kahit sino namang team na nandun talaga sa progress na gustong mag-champion, lahat naman pagdadaanan ’yung sakit.”
Looking on the Brighter Side
Despite the early exit, Eya Laure remains focused on growth, believing that their struggles will ultimately benefit the team moving forward.
“I think on the brighter side lagi, lahat nga ng pagkatalo, lahat ng mga ganitong bagay, magpapalakas sa amin in the future,” she said. “’Yun naman talaga ’yung point… maging patient lang talaga.”
For now, Eya Laure and the rest of the Flying Titans will be going back to the drawing board, all with the hope of doing better the next time around.
