The FEU Tamaraws flexed their dominant form, sweeping the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 25-14, 25-21, 25-21, in the UAAP Season 88 men’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday.
Adamson threatened to extend the match in the third set after trimming the deficit to 20-22. However, Richard Besorio’s service error after a strong run halted the Falcons’ momentum. From there, FEU tightened its grip and closed out the match to remain unbeaten.
“‘Yung tournament talagang malayo pa, pero hindi kami titigil para mas lalong maabot namin ‘yung gusto naming mangyari,” said Tamaraws head coach Eddieson Orcullo.
FEU Tamaraws Lean on Balanced Effort
Amet Bituin led the FEU Tamaraws with 13 points on 10 attacks and 3 blocks, while Dryx Saavedra added 12 points. Lirick Mendoza tallied 12 points built on 7 blocks and 5 attacks, and Doula Ndongala chipped in 11 points on 7 attacks and 4 blocks.
Setter Ariel Cacao orchestrated the offense with 20 excellent sets, while Vennie Ceballos anchored the floor defense with 19 excellent receptions.
For Adamson, no player reached double digits. Besorio finished with 8 points, while Jims Ducusin had 7.
The Tamaraws next face the Ateneo Blue Eagles on Wednesday, March 4, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Meanwhile, the Soaring Falcons aim to regroup when they take on the UST Golden Spikers on Saturday, March 7, at the same venue.
