PVL action is set to resume in a few days. The lead-up to this reopening for 2025 has by and large been unremarkable—until these last few days. Over the past week or so, the league has seen two major updates that could potentially shake things up in the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

Rachel Anne Daquis, Jolina Dela Cruz, Lorene Toring Set for Debut

The Farm Fresh Foxies currently sit eighth in the standings among 12 teams with a 2-3 record. But don’t be surprised if they make a move to start off 2025 with the help of three debuting Foxies: Rachel Anne Daquis, Jolina Dela Cruz, and Lorene Toring.

Toring and Dela Cruz, who are both coming off ACL injuries, have been cleared for action. Both suffered their injuries in 2023 and have been out of commission for over a year. Daquis, on the other hand, took a hiatus for personal reasons. She signed with Farm Fresh before the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference but has not seen action yet as she is still trying to get back into game shape. Now, it appears she is ready to make her Foxies debut as well.

Incidentally, the three could make their season debut right in the PVL’s first game of 2025 on January 18, when the Foxies take on the NXLED Chameleons at the PhilSports Arena.

Drama Unfolds at Cignal as Ces Molina, Riri Meneses Step Away

While Farm Fresh is set to welcome key players, the Cignal HD Spikers will be playing the rest of the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference without two vital pieces: Ces Molina and Riri Meneses.

Just this Wednesday, the two—via their talent management agency Avior Talent Management—shocked the PVL world when they announced they were leaving Cignal. The agency, in its statement on behalf of Meneses and Molina, said the two “have decided to part ways with the team. However, no reason was given as to why they have decided to leave.

The plot thickened on Wednesday night when Cignal, in its own statement, said Meneses and Molina had “ceased attending training since its resumption earlier this week.” The HD Spikers added they are in consultation with its legal team “to determine all possible courses of action regarding this material breach of contract.”

Cignal will have a little more than two weeks to sort out this delicate situation as their season debut is on January 21. They will take on the Galeries Tower Highrisers at the PhilSports Arena.

Three Games Mark PVL’s 2025 Opening

A spicy triple-header will kick off the resumption of the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

Aside from the aforementioned clash between Farm Fresh and NXLED, the January 18 play date will also see the Zus Coffee Thunderbelles take on the Choco Mucho Flying Titans in the second game. The nightcap will feature the Akari Chargers opposite the PLDT High-Speed Hitters. All three games will be played at the PhilSports Arena.
