He’s back! Former PBA Best Player of the Conference Greg Slaughter will be returning to the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) for another run this season. However, the Cebuano big man still wouldn’t join Cebu’s own team, but rather a powerhouse squad further in the south.
Multi-media personality and basketball insider Snow Badua revealed the breaking news that Slaughter is indeed making a comeback after an early playoff in season 6.
His most recent stint was with the Manila Stars, who were quickly eliminated in the quarterfinals after the 7-foot-1 center was suspended following a scuffle with Caloocan. This time around, he is joining another contender, and teaming up with familiar faces.
Gregzilla To Star Alongside PBA Legends in Basilan
Slaughter, 37, is set to suit up as a member of the Basilan Starhorse and will star alongside former PBA cagers Alex Cabagnot, Arwind Santos, Rabeh Al-Husainni, and Jervy Cruz.
Despite a star-studded roster, Basilan is yet to make some noise in the MPBL. They currently hold an 8-8 record and are still far from being a contender.
Adding Gregzilla would mean the Starhorse will be getting the production of an experienced big man, who can still catch double digits in points and rebounds. Last season, Slaughter averaged 15.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game in 18 games with Manila.
Just recently, Cebu seemed to have acquired the homegrown talent before the season began. However, it did not come to fruition. Cebu has since been under fire following a series of controversies regarding players’ pay. Fortunately, it has now been picked up by a new owner looking to turn things around, yet still it wasn’t enough to entice Slaughter back to his home town.
