The Curry-less Golden State Warriors went on the road to face the young and talented roster of the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center in Downtown Houston on Saturday, November 2, 2024. Despite almost choking a huge lead, the Warriors still managed to get it done in overtime, 127-121, behind another historic performance from Buddy Hield.
Warriors Survive 31-Point Lead Collapse to Secure OT Victory
Golden State led by as much as 31 points and despite not having Steph Curry on the lineup, it already seemed like an easy road win for the 2022 champions. However, young stars Jabari Smith Jr. and Tari Eason made a huge comeback to force overtime. Despite their efforts, the Warriors’ deep bench, led by Buddy Hield, held off Houston en route to their third straight win.
Surprisingly, GSW is now 5-1 and is currently the third seed in the stacked Western Conference.
Hield finished with 27 points off the bench on top of his 2 assists, 7 rebounds, and a 6-for-10 shooting from three. Aside from a very efficient outing, he also made another historic feat by moving to the 20th spot in the NBA’s All-time 3-point leaders list. He is now ahead of JJ Redick, one of the best shooters in NBA history who now coaches the Los Angeles Lakers.
Jonathan Kuminga also logged 23 points and 6 rebounds while Draymond Green had a classic night with another double-double, 14 points, and 11 rebounds.
Rockets Show Promise Despite Loss to Warriors
It’s looking good in Houston after the young core of Jabari Smith Jr., Alperen Sengun, Tari Eason, and Amen Thompson all played exceptionally against the battle-hardened Warriors. Despite losing, Eason, who had publicly shown his distaste towards the Warriors, tallied 27 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 blocks.
