Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League season 6 – The Iloilo United Royals closes the playoff door for the Valenzuela Classics DYNACAST behind Mark Nonoy’s fourth-period outburst in WES Arena, Valenzuela City.
Nonoy’s Late-Game Heroics Secure The Win For Iloilo
Nonoy, 24, pushed Iloilo over Valenzuela after taking over late in the game. The 5-foot-9 athletic guard finished with 14 points, 1 assist, and 2 rebounds to take the Best Player honors. He scored the Royals’ 10 of the last 12 points, eventually securing the dub over the Classics, 72-69.
Clint Doliguez also helped on the offense by tallying 15 points. Ry Aijer De La Rosa also contributed with 12 points.
Despite the win, Iloilo still failed to book a ticket to the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Valenzuela tried hard until the end, but their chances of making the playoffs finally came to an end after their 14th loss, right in front of their home crowd.
Dennis Gabriel Santos did have a productive night with 17 points, 2 assists, and 7 rebounds. Reeve Ugsang also recorded a double-double, 10 points, and 13 rebounds.
Mark Nonoy, the star from Negros and a former De La Salle standout, was just drafted 10th overall during the 2024 PBA Draft last July. He is just waiting for a contract buyout from Iloilo to finally play for Terrafirma.
Another Event Of The Night Saw Abra Easily Cruising Past Bicol
The Abra Weavers completely blew out the Bicolandia Dragons, 129-68, behind Roi Sumang’s 21 points, 9 assists, and 3 steals.
All 15 Abra players scored against Bicol, with five of them scoring double digits. John Lloyd Clemente, Keane Lee, and Wendel Comboy posted 16, 12, and 10 points, respectively. Jeepy Faundo had an 11-11 double-double of points plus rebounds as well.
Shaq Alanes dropped 23 points and 5 rebounds, but the combined scoring output of the Weavers proved to be too much for the Dragons.
The Scores:
- Abra Weavers vs. Bicolandia Dragons (129-68)
- Pangasinan Heatwaves vs. Sarangani Marlins (88-70)
- Iloilo United Royals vs. Valenzuela Classics DYNACAST (72-69)
