With six consecutive world championships, the country continues to set the benchmark for talent, coaching, and competitive excellence globally—so much so that other regions now turn to the Philippines to bolster their own teams.
This time, however, the story takes an unprecedented turn. ONIC Philippines has just proven the rumors true, making history by officially introducing Indonesian gold laner Clayton “Savero” Kuswanto to its S17 roster—becoming the first team in MPL Philippines to field an import.
Where Savero Fits In
Savero will help fill the void left by one of the country’s best and most decorated players, Duane “Kelra” Pillas, who moved to ONIC PH’s Indonesian counterpart earlier this month—which was also Savero’s former team.
Savero joins the powerhouse roster of the Super Family, featuring jungler Cyric “Kingkong” Perez, mid laner Frince “Super Frince” Ramrez, roamer Borris “Brusko” Parro, alongside EXP laners Jann “Kirk” Gutierrez and Nowee “Ryota” Macasa. Following Ynot’s departure to NaVi in Indonesia, the team has appointed Haze as the new head coach, with Bluffzy stepping into a dual role as both backup player and analyst.
Following their disappointing semifinals exit in Season 16, where they finished fourth and missed their chance to defend their throne in M7, the Super Family will be out for redemption. The addition of Savero could be exactly what they need to return to the top.
What He Brings
Savero has shown some serious upside in MPL ID with his fearless plays and high-level mechanics. In fact, he was a vital part of ONIC Indonesia‘s championship run in Season 15. He also proved that he can keep up with the world’s best on the global stage, helping ONIC secure a fourth-place finish at last year’s MSC.
Already one of the brightest young prospects in Indonesia, his stint in the world’s most competitive region will provide the final polish to not only sharpen his game but also elevate his status to another level.
