After 10 extra minutes of playing time, the Phoenix Suns were able to pull out a gritty 113-110 victory over the Orlando Magic on Sunday thanks to a game-winning bucket from Jalen Green in the corner.
Green, who had been struggling all night, converted a tough fading corner three to finish with 16 points and pull Phoenix out of a two-game losing streak.
“It’s part of the game… It’s easy when you got your team supporting you too. My team just telling me, keep shooting, keep being myself, so I did. I was able to get that shot off, thankfully it went in,” Green said postgame.
Suns Win, But Lose Dillon Brooks
Despite the victory, the Suns will be without one of their stars moving forward, as Dillon Brooks has been sidelined with a broken hand.
Brooks only played seven minutes against the Magic before heading to the locker room with the injury. He was ruled out almost immediately.
As of this writing, Brooks’ timetable to return is still unknown, but the Suns may have to brace for more devastating news, as previous instances of broken hands have left players sidelined for at least a month.
Magic Still in Hunt for Playoff Spot
Despite the loss, the Magic still remain in a good spot to make the NBA playoffs, holding a 29-26 record at the seventh seed in the East, only half a game behind the sixth-seeded Philadelphia 76ers.
Paolo Banchero continues to lead Orlando’s charge, flirting with a triple-double of 26 points, 14 rebounds, and 8 assists, while Javon Carter marked his return to his former team by hitting a game-tying three before Green eventually hit his own to win the game.
The Magic will try to climb back into the win column when they face the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday, while the Suns will try to start a stretch without Brooks when they face the Portland Trail Blazers on the same day.
