For much of the past couple of years, Australian guard Josh Giddey was mostly known for his—ahem!—rather controversial choices in female companionship and as the man the Oklahoma City Thunder traded to get defensive lynchpin Alex Caruso. But the 6-foot-8 Giddey is changing that narrative slowly but surely as he is in the midst of what is so far a career-defining season with the Chicago Bulls.
To be fair, Giddey had already shown flashes of brilliance in OKC with his playmaking, passing vision, and unselfish play. Now, given bigger responsibilities in Chicago, Giddey has matured into an All-Star caliber player with tremendous court vision, an unmatched feel for the game, and a versatile skill-set.
Indeed, Giddey is shining this season in more ways than one. His playmaking remains elite, often threading passes in traffic and turning chaos into opportunity—a luxury for a Bulls roster that thrives on ball movement. Offensively, he’s balancing scoring with facilitating, using a solid mid-range jumper and timely drives to the hoop to keep defenders honest. But more than the offensive brilliance, it is Giddey’s defense that has shown so much growth as the Aussie has added toughness and effort on that end
With improved conditioning and confidence, Giddey is proving he’s not just the future—he’s very much the now.
