EAC Lady Generals rookie Joy Perez admitted that she got a little bit overcourageous after their quarterfinals win against the Perpetual Help Lady Altas last Sunday in the NCAA Season 101 Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
Who can blame Joy Perez, though? The rookie stuffed the stat sheet with 24 points built on 22 attacks, with an ace and 6 service receptions, to earn Best Player of the Game honors and lead EAC to a most improbable win.
Afterward, she told Rebanse that she may have gone a little over the top after the big win.
“Siguro po masasabi ko po na sumobra po ako sa tapang ngayon kasi last game po parang matapang lang [tapos] ngayon kahit po napapagod na, nakikita ko pa rin po na lumalaban sila,” Perez said. “And mas tinatapangan ko pa rin po para sa kanila.”
Joy Perez Fights Off Fatigue for Teammates
The rookie, of course, is alluding to the team’s seniors, like Alex Razonable, as one of her inspirations in going all-out for EAC. And go all-out she did, so much so that she fought off the toll of playing two crucial games in a row to help the Lady Generals notch back-to-back wins.
“Mabigat lang po ‘yung katawan, and siguro po kasi walang maayos na recovery since [Play-In] game po, tas kinabukasan training, tas game po ulit. Kaya wala pong masyadong rest, ganun, sleep lang po talaga,” she admitted.
Killer Instinct for Decider
Now, the Lady Generals are a win away from making it to the semifinals, and coach Kirk Ong, according to Joy Perez, is reminding the team to show their killer instinct.
“Siguro po ‘yung sinasabi ni coach na ‘killer instinct,’ kailangan pa po namin mas inangat pa po ‘yung ganung thinking namin. And yung ‘winning culture’ po, kailangan po namin magkaroon ng winning attitude as a team po,” Perez added.
Joy Perez and the rest of the Lady Generals will need a lot of that killer instinct and winning attitude later today when EAC takes on Perpetual at 2:30 p.m. in Bacoor, Cavite.
