Thompson’s Early Surge And Holt’s Third Quarter Push Put Ginebra Ahead, But Meralco Fights Back
The Gin Kings controlled the game early on, with Thompson leading the way. His 15 quick points in the first half helped set the tone for the game. The Gin Kings continued to dominate in the third quarter, with Stephen Holt delivering the goods. He scored on a fastbreak and on an and-1 play that extended the advantage to 15 points (51-66).
The Gin Kings enjoyed a very comfortable lead until Meralco roared back to life. Hodge injected much-needed energy into his squad, while Durham and Quinto both provided important baskets in a 20-7 surge that cut the King’s advantage to a mere two points.
The fourth quarter was a whirlwind of action, with both teams trading punches. But it was the duo of Brownlee and Aguilar who ultimately made the difference. They combined for key baskets, igniting a 12-5 run that helped put the Gin Kings ahead for good.
