The La Salle Lady Spikers displayed their resilience as they outlasted the Adamson Lady Falcons, 19–25, 25–20, 25–21, 13–25, 15–5, in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
After dropping the fourth set, the Lady Spikers regrouped and dominated the deciding fifth set. With a slim 7–5 lead, Shane Reterta, Amie Provido, and Shevana Laput combined for eight unanswered points to close out the match.
“Nung natalo kami sa fourth set, sinabihan lang namin ‘yung mga bata na character ito. Dito na mailalabas kung ano ‘yung pinaghirapan niyo; dito niyo masusubok kung ano ‘yung meron kayo,” said Lady Spikers assistant coach Noel Orcullo. “Nakita naman namin na gusto nilang lumaban, na gusto nilang manalo. Talagang ginusto nila.”
La Salle Draws Big Games from Big Guns
Laput led La Salle with 26 points built on 19 attacks, 6 blocks, and 1 ace, while Angel Canino added 19 points along with 12 excellent digs and 11 excellent receptions. Reterta finished with 10 points, 12 excellent receptions, and 11 excellent digs.
Eshana Nunag orchestrated the Lady Spikers’ offense with 23 excellent sets, while libero Lyka De Leon anchored the defense with 18 excellent digs and 14 excellent receptions.
For Adamson, Frances Mordi led the team with 22 points built on 19 attacks and 3 blocks, while Shaina Nitura finished with 21 points on 17 attacks, 2 blocks, and 2 aces, along with 17 excellent receptions and 10 excellent digs. Lhouiz Tuddao added 11 markers.
The Lady Spikers will next face the defending champions, the NU Lady Bulldogs, on Sunday, March 15, at 3:00 p.m. at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Earlier that day, the Lady Falcons will take on the UP Fighting Maroons at 1:00 p.m.
