LeBron James just making history—and this time, he made one with his son, Bronny James, as the Los Angeles Lakers continued their NBA preseason.
The Jameses—LeBron and Bronny—became the first father-and-son tandem to grace the court in an official NBA game on Monday (Sunday night, US time) at the Crypto.com Arena, when the 20-year-old rookie checked in the Lakers’ preseason meeting versus the Phoenix Suns to start the second quarter.
The elder James led the way for the Lakers, finishing with 19 points on an efficient 8-for-12 clip from the field to go along with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks. The other James, meanwhile, chipped in 2 caroms but was held scoreless in what was otherwise a rough night to mark his and his dad’s historic night.
Suns Spoil Historic Night for LeBron and Bronny
The Suns, however, would go on to spoil this special night for LeBron and Bronny, outscoring the Lakers 33-22 in the fourth quarter to chalk up their first win of the NBA preseason. 118-114. The Lakers, on the other hand, dropped to 0-2.
Defensive specialist Josh Okogie came off the bench to pace the Suns with 15 points, while second-year guard Collin Gillespie, rookie center Oso Ighodaro, and All-Star Devin Booker contributed 12 markers each. Veterans Bradley Beal and Damion Lee added 11 and 10, respectively, in a balanced Phoenix attack.
LeBron, 39, is gearing up for the 22nd season of what has been a legendary career, while Bronny, 20, is entering his first as the Lakers’ second-round pick of last June’s NBA Draft.
Incidentally, the younger James celebrated his 20th birthday by making NBA history with his iconic dad.
The Lakers will next go on the road and face the Milwaukee Bucks at Fiserv Forum on Friday.
