The Lyceum Lady Pirates ended their six-game losing streak on Saturday with a five-set victory over the EAC Lady Generals in NCAA women’s volleyball action. And, according to Lyceum star Stacey Lopez, the team got it done with better receiving and greater effort.
“Siguro po ‘yung naging adjustment namin ngayon sa EAC sa mga sumunod na set mas nag-double effort po kami sa depensa, mas tinibayan po namin ‘yung receive para po makapag side-out kase ‘yun po minsan yung nawawala sa amin,” Lopez told Rebanse in an exclusive interview.
Lopez led the Lady Pirates in scoring with 20 points built on 19 attacks to go along with an ace to get the much-awaited victory.
Service and Receive Are Crucial, According to Stacey Lopez
The third-year Lady Pirate added that in the Lady Pirates’ practices, there was much emphasis on working on their serving and receiving.
“Hindi po kami nawawalan sa training ng service [and] receive kase mas ‘yun po yung kailangan namin pag tibayan kasi skill-wise, lahat po kami mayroon. Lahat po kami mayroong kayang ipakita, kailangan lang po [talaga] namin pagsama-samahin,” she said.
Less Errors for Their Play-In Match Against EAC
With Lyceum and EAC ending up fourth and fifth, respectively, in Group B, they will meet again in the Play-In tournament to determine who will join the Letran Lady Knights, San Beda Lady Red Spikers, and the Arellano Lady Chiefs in the quarterfinals.
As that important match looms, Stacey Lopez told Rebanse that she and her teammates will turn their focus to making fewer errors in hopes of beating the Lady Generals once again.
“Nakita naman po namin kung saan kami nakakapatay and ano ‘yung mga kulang namin. Siguro sa training mas pag iigihan pa namin and magle-less pa kami ng mga errors and gagampanan pa namin ‘yung mga responsibilities namin,” she concluded.
