Olivares College Gymnasium, Parañaque – The Manila SV Batang Sampaloc stuns the former 2nd seed of the South Division, the Zamboanga Master Sardines, and brings them down to the fourth spot just right before the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball (MPBL) season 6 playoffs begin.

Manila triumphed over Zamboanga, 86-78, behind Joshua Torralba’s finest performance of the season. The 31-year-old guard delivered an efficient 23-point scoring outburst. Greg Slaughter, the former PBA star is already in MVP talks even though he only played his first season in the MPBL. Gregzilla finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks against Zamboanga. Jorey Napoles also chipped in with 13 points. The Manilenyos, 19-8, will keep their seat as the top 4 teams in the North even if they lose their final game in the season.

Despite former MVP Jaycee Marcelino’s impressive overall performance, Zamboanga still crumbled and dropped from the 2nd seed to the 4th seed. Marcelino did everything he could in the court. He tallied 33 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. The Master Sardines, 20-8, will face either the Parañaque Patriots or the South Cotabato Warriors in the postseason.

Valenzuela And Iloilo Ended Their Seasons With A Win, But Still Won’t Make The Playoffs

Both Valenzuela (14-14) and Iloilo (11-17) thwarted their opponents on September 28th. Despite the victories, they still won’t be punching a ticket to the playoffs as they just fell short of a couple of wins to reach at least the 8th seed in their respective divisions.

The Iloilo United Royals relied on Omar Larupay’s double-double, 18 points, and 11 rebounds against the Sarangani Marlins. Clint Doliguez also finished with 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Meanwhile, the Valenzuela Classics rallied past the Marikina Shoemasters behind big man Reeve Ugsang’s 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks. 43-year-old Paulo Hubalde also recorded 16 points,12 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

The Scores:

  • Iloilo United Royals vs. Sarangani Marlins (72-69)
  • Valenzuela Classics DYNACAST vs. Marikina Shoemasters (71-66)
  • Manila SV Batang Sampaloc vs. Zamboanga Master Sardines (86-78)
