The Golden State Warriors hopped on the road to face the young Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, only to be met with a series of unfortunate events. With the addition of Dennis Schroder to their roster, the Dubs are looking to turn things around. Unfortunately, they’re still in a slump as Schroder’s debut was a nightmare, Steph Curry went scoreless for the first time in 13 years, and the Warriors suffered a devastating 51-point blowout loss to the Grizzlies.
After a Hot Start, the Warriors Now Face a Tough Challenge
The Dubs looked like a fresh team in their first 10 games of the season until they were not. Over their last 11 games, Golden State has lost 9 matchups, most of which were very close and could have gone either way. They’re having a rough skid, and even with Dennis Schroder, things still don’t look good.
Steph Curry is Getting Old
At 36 years old, Curry shouldn’t be the one trying to play 40 minutes and put up 30 points each night. Sooner or later, that’ll take a toll on his body and if he’s out, the Warriors’ hopes of going to the playoffs will be thrown straight out of the window.
His scoreless outing against Memphis on Friday is more likely the result of the wear and tear of trying to win each game.
It’s very unlikely for him to go without a single basket in more than 20 minutes of playing time. In 16 years, that hasn’t happened until now. Even Curry admits he’s better than that.
Anyway, fans are still positive that the greatest shooter of all time will bounce back soon.
Golden State Needs Defense More Than Ever
Turnovers are one thing, but putting up no fight on the defensive end is another thing. They were once known as one of the best defensive teams in the past decade, but right now, they’re suddenly one of the worst. If they want to start winning games again, that defense needs to show up more often.
GSW is more than capable of getting buckets. Curry, Schroder, Hield, Podziemski, Wiggins, and Kuminga can all go for 25 points with ease. It just wasn’t their day.
