Here are the top performers on January 30 and the stats to highlight their impact:
BEST PLAYER OF THE DAY:
Cooper Flagg DAL SF 49 PTS | 10 REB | 3 AST | 66.5 FPS (vs. CHA)
Flagg stole the spotlight, scoring the most points in NBA history by a player under 20 years old. He also became the youngest player ever to record 45+ points. He continues to be incredible as a rookie and should remain one of the frontrunners for ROTY honors.
BREAKOUT:
Dilon Brooks PHX SF 40 PTS | 8 REB | 4 AST | 60.6 FPS (vs. DET)
Not only did he fill the stat sheet, but he also finished with his best scoring game of the season. While Brooks has posted several underwhelming outputs lately, that doesn’t take away from the fact that he remains an explosive scorer, having recorded at least 25 points six times during the month.
SLEEPER:
Tim Hardaway Jr. DEN SG 25 PTS | 8 REB | 3 AST | 42.1 FPS (vs. BKN)
Despite some inconsistencies, THJ remains more than capable of delivering this kind of performance. He recorded his 10th game of the season with at least 20 points and his ninth with five or more three-pointers made.
ELITE ASSET:
Michael Porter Jr. BKN SF 38 PTS | 10 REB | 2 BLK | 65.5 FPS (vs. DEN)
MPJ put on a show against his former team, knocking down 7 threes to finish with a new season-high. This performance also marked his 13th 30-point game of the season and his 8th double-double.
CATEGORY SPECIALIST:
Jonas Valanciunas DEN C 12 PTS | 9 REB | 1 STL | 30.3 FPS (vs. BKN)
Over his last four games, Valanciunas has been a very dependable contributor, averaging a double-double of 15.3 points and 10.8 rebounds. With Jokic expected to be sidelined during the first week of February, he should continue to remain productive.
PLAYER TO WATCH:
Myles Turner MIL C 21 PTS | 14 REB | 6 BLK | 55.3 FPS (vs. WAS)
Since returning from an ankle injury, the versatile big man has been playing out of his mind. Over his last three games, he’s averaging an efficient 23 points while also racking up 4.6 blocks. With Giannis expected to be out for some time, there’s no reason he can’t maintain this level of production.
STREAMER:
Bub Carrington WAS PG 13 PTS | 4 REB | 6 AST | 26.8 FPS (vs. MIL)
This marked Bub’s seventh straight game scoring in double figures, during which he has also averaged three triples. The only downside has been his up-and-down playmaking. But with Johnson sustaining an injury today, he should be poised for a bigger role and production.
FLOPPER:
Mark Williams PHX C 6 PTS | 5 REB | 1 TO | 15.5 FPS (vs. DET)
The fourth-year center was dominant in their previous game against the Nets, nearly posting 30 points. However, he was back to his usual inconsistent self today, recording another subpar game. Despite that, he still ranks inside the top 30 in rebounding this season, averaging 8.2 rebounds per game.
