Here are the top performers on February 25 and the stats to highlight their impact.
BEST PLAYER OF THE DAY:
Tyrese Maxey PHI PG 32 PTS | 9 REB | 8 AST | 61.8 FPS (vs. IND)
Maxey has been one of the league’s best scorers this season and has maintained that momentum, scoring at least 26 points in all but one game this month. His production in other areas has also been elite, averaging 3 steals and close to 8 assists over his last three games.
BREAKOUT:
Brandon Williams DAL PG 19 PTS | 10 AST | 2 BLK | 37.2 FPS (vs. BKN)
Injuries keep piling up for the already undermanned Mavs, with Khris Middleton leaving today’s game early due to a shoulder issue. That said, Brandon Williams should see an even bigger role moving forward. If he stays healthy, he also has the potential to become a standout contributor for the remainder of the season.
SLEEPER:
Jonathan Kuminga ATL PF 27 PTS | 7 REB | 2 STL | 45.4 FPS (vs. WAS)
Kuminga had an incredible debut with the Hawks. He was nearly unstoppable on offense, shooting 75% from the field to lead the team in scoring and finish with a season-high. With Johnson injured, he should be poised for an even larger role moving forward.
ELITE ASSET:
Kevin Porter Jr. MIL PG 32 PTS | 7 REB | 7 AST | 58.9 FPS (vs. MIA)
Since coming back from an injury, KPJ has been incredibly reliable, averaging 22.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 2.4 steals per game. The Bucks will need him to keep playing at this level for them to still have a chance of making the playoffs.
CATEGORY SPECIALIST:
Karlo Matkovic NOP C 10 PTS | 8 REB | 3 BLK | 32.1 FPS (vs. GSW)
The sophomore big man has seen increased minutes over the last three games and capitalized on the opportunity, averaging 10.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. He should be able to maintain this level of defensive production at least until Missi returns.
PLAYER TO WATCH:
De’Anthony Melton GSW PG 28 PTS | 4 REB | 3 AST | 37.3 FPS (vs. NOP)
Melton has been producing at a high level over his last four games, averaging nearly 21 points with 3.0 triples, 3.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.5 steals. With Curry sidelined for at least a month, the Warriors will keep counting on him to ignite their offense.
STREAMER:
Moses Moody GSW SG 24 PTS | 5 REB | 3 AST | 33.5 FPS (vs. NOP)
There was an uptick in Moody’s overall production over his last two games, averaging 23.5 points, 4 threes, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. While it’s unlikely that he maintains this level of play, he should still have plenty of opportunities to deliver again moving forward.
FLOPPER:
Grayson Allen PHX SG 14 PTS | 3 REB | 1 AST | 17.1 FPS (vs. BOS)
Grayson had scored at least 20 points in each of his previous four appearances, but the Celtics made it really difficult for him to find any offensive rhythm today. He finished 2-for-12 from the field, including a brutal 1-for-9 from deep.
