NBA Daily Metrics: LeBron James Delivers Vintage Performance while Luka Doncic Posts Triple-Double in Return as Lakers Take Down Sixers

The Los Angeles Lakers (17-6) claimed their ninth win in their last eleven after outlasting the Philadelphia 76ers (13-10) with an intense 112-108 win on December 8.

BEST PLAYER OF THE GAME:

King James delivered when it mattered most, scoring 10 of his team’s final 12 points to secure the win. He was highly efficient throughout, finishing with a season-high in points and posting his second game of the season with at least 25. He also made history, climbing to No. 2 on the NBA’s all-time wins list. 

BREAKOUT PERFORMANCE:

Luka Doncic  LAL PG 31 PTS | 15 REB | 11 AST | 66.5 FPS

Doncic wasn’t at his best offensively, but he made up for it at the line, converting 10 free throws for the 10th time this season to record his eighth consecutive 30-point game. He also added a season-high in rebounds, along with his eighth double-digit assist outing.

Tyrese Maxey PHI PG 28 PTS | 7 REB | 9 AST | 58.9 FPS

Maxey remained steady on offense, finishing with at least 20 points for the 22nd time and his sixth game with five three-pointers this season. He currently ranks 3rd in the league in points per game and also 2nd in total three-pointers made.

VJ Edgecombe PHI SG 15 PTS | 5 REB | 3 AST | 24.5 FPS

Edgecombe finished with his best scoring output in his last six games while also posting at least 8 RA thrice in his last four games. 

STAT SPECIALIST:

Andre Drummond PHI C 11 PTS | 12 REB | 1 BLK | 28.4 FPS

Drummond notched his ninth double-double and his 12th double-digit rebounding performance of the season.

DEFENSIVE STANDOUT:

Hayes recorded at least 4 rebounds in four of his last five games and also posted 3 blocks twice in his last three.

Grimes had an off night on offense, finishing with a season-low in points and the third time this season that he’s scored fewer than 10 points. But, he contributed in other ways, tallying at least 9 RA in five-straight games.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE GAME:

Joel Embiid PHI C 16 PTS | 7 REB | 2 AST 

Embiid had a rough night, taking 20 attempts but shooting just under 20%. His struggles were even more evident from deep, where he missed all six of his shots. It’s been a challenging year for him offensively, averaging a career-worst 18.5 points per game this season.
