Right after winning MVP, Joel Embiid just can’t catch a break from injuries. His 2024-2025 campaign was unfortunately cut short after another knee injury, and he immediately underwent surgery to prepare for next season. However, his latest injury report just a few weeks ago hasn’t been very positive, at least for Philly fans who are hoping for the Sixers’ best player to revamp the franchise.
Joel Embiid Injury Update: Sixers Star Faces Uncertain Recovery
Last month, multiple sources confirmed that Embiid’s health hasn’t improved much after undergoing knee surgery in April. Before being forced to sit out the rest of the season in February, Embiid only managed to play 19 games due to recurring pain. In the 2023-2024 season, he also missed 43 games after tearing his meniscus. News outlets even say that the injury is “bad” and there are doubts that he’ll be ready on October 21, when the 2025-2026 season officially kicks off. Even worse, chances are the Cameroonian star may even miss most of the season again.
Recently, the Philadelphia 76ers posted a short video showing Joel Embiid doing some shootaround in the post. Fans quickly pointed out that the former MVP is not wearing a brace or support in his surgically operated left knee, which somehow gives them a bit of hope before training camp starts. However, Embiid is already 31 years old, and his poor condition may force him to dial down. In addition, he also publicly stated he won’t be playing back-to-backs anymore. Last season, after seemingly recovering from the meniscus tear, Embiid returned to the leagu,e boasting his 2024 Olympics gold medal for Team USA. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of his year since he wasn’t performing even remotely near his MVP form.
Despite the concerns surrounding his injuries, the Philadelphia 76ers still decided to lock him down by extending his contract by three years, $193 million. Surprisingly, this is the only huge move the Sixers have made this offseason. They haven’t signed or traded for big names, or at least tried to keep reliable guys like Quentin Grimes and Guerschon Yabusele.
Overall, it’s not looking good for Philadelphia. Embiid is still not 100% healthy, plus they’re still keeping an aging Paul George, Kyle Lowry, and Eric Gordon, while also doing very little this summer. Are the Sixers on track for doom?
