After counting all votes from the fans, media, and players, a surprising name gets in the mix for the 2025 NBA All-Star game in San Francisco – Jordan Poole. While he had cracked the top 10 as a backcourt in the East, he’s still unlikely to be included in the final reserves list. As surprising and refreshing as it is to see Poole get the nod from the public and his co-players, something inevitable is bound to happen to his team, and that is the Washington Wizards’ possibly creating their worst season win-loss record in franchise history.
Right after the loss against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday, the Wizards have now lost 13 straight games and are now 6-38. On top of that, they’re also officially the worst team in the league. Having two good scorers in Poole and Kuzma who both have All-Star potential now feels like having a double-edged sword.
Washington Obviously Did Not Get Better This Season
Last season, the Washington Wizards only won 15 games out of their 82 matches in the regular season. It’s not shocking given that Kristaps Porzingis was already dealt to the Boston Celtics in June 2023 and Bradley Beal was sent to the Phoenix in the same month. Both trades gave them almost nothing.
Then came the 2023-2024 season, where we the Wizards traded big man Daniel Gafford for Richaun Holmes right before the trade deadline on February 2024. Shortly after that, Gafford was already in the NBA Finals as a vital piece to the Mavericks’ playoffs run. Oh, and did we mention Washington also let go of Deni Avdija in the offseason? Avdija is an underrated 3-and-D player which has still put in great numbers to this day.
All of those players found success after leaving Washington. Porzingis had just won the championship, Gafford was shining in Dallas right after their Finals appearance, Beal was having fun in Phoenix with Durant and Booker, and Avdija was still playing well in Portland. Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards continue to lose.
Fun fact: The 2024-2025 Washing Wizards now own the record for worst point differential in NBA history, which means they get outscored by their opponents the most. Kuzma’s remarks on the Pistons’ record last year definitely didn’t age well.
Worst Season in Franchise History in the Making
As mentioned, the Wizards currently have the worst record in the NBA with 6-38, just slightly worse than their record last season in their first 44 games (7-37). If this continues, they’re already on pace to have the worst season in the Wizards’ history.
They haven’t found success even in the weak East of the 2010s, and they won’t find success now with the Celtics, Bucks, Knicks, and Cavaliers guarding the gate. To this day, the Charlotte Bobcats are still the team with the worst regular season record when they finished 7-59 during the 2011-2023 lockout season.
Should the Wizards’ front office be worried? They’re now the laughingstock of the NBA, but Jordan Poole is still getting All-Star votes. What should be done next?
