Even without Steph Curry and Draymond Green, the Golden State Warriors were still able to get the win over the young Houston Rockets team on December 6th, 99-93, behind Jonathan Kuminga’s career-high performance.

Kuminga’s Explosive Scoring Snaps Warriors’ 5-Game Losing Streak

Curry and Green may be out due to injuries, but Kuminga was there to be the unlikely hero for the Warriors. The 22-year-old forward logged a career-high 33 points on 13-for-22 shooting including a crucial layup ij the final minute of regulation while also getting 2 assists and 6 rebounds. This is the first time Kuminga cracked more than 30 points this season.

He’s not alone in pushing for the win though as Andrew Wiggins was just a rebound shy of getting another double-double with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Surprisingly, young point guard Brandin Podziemski led the team in rebounds after grabbing 12 boards. Golden State has finally ended their 5-game losing streak after beating Houston. In addition, the Warriors have won 15 straight matchups against the Rockets since February 2020, which means H-town has been losing to the Bay Area for quite a while now.

On the other hand, rising star big man Alperen Sengun finished with 16 points, 5 assists, and 8 rebounds, but the whole Rockets team was shooting poorly against an undermanned Warriors. It also helped that they allowed a 21-4 run in the middle of the game which gave GSW a slight boost. Dillon Brooks, Amen Thompson, and Fred VanVleet added 15, 14, and 13 points, respectively. Jalen Green’s poor shooting (4-for-16) only got him 14 points.

Golden State has now improved to 13-8. They will face the Houston Rockets (15-8) again on December 12 for their first In-Season Tournament matchup. But before that, the Warriors will stay at home to butt heads with the Minnesota Timberwolves tomorrow and on Monday, December 9.
