With just 8.1 seconds left in overtime, Trae Young made the go-ahead three-pointer to spoil LeBron James and Anthony Davis’s stellar performances on Saturday (December 7).
The Los Angeles Lakers, who just came off from a 41-point blowout loss against the Houston Rockets on Thursday, hopped on the road again to face the Atlanta Hawks. However, despite the historic performance of the LeBron-AD duo, the Lakers fell to the Hawks in OT, 134-132.
LeBron and AD’s Efforts Gone to Waste
LA’s biggest stars combined for a total of 77 points on Saturday. King James turned back the clock after putting up another triple-double with 39 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Davis logs a 38-point, 10-rebound double-double on top of his 8 assists and 2 blocks.
LBJ’s full-court pass even went viral on the internet, but all of their efforts were destroyed by Trae’s historic night.
Trae Young Makes NBA History After Beating Lakers
Aside from the clutch basket that led to their 13th win of the season, Trae Young also made a new NBA record after becoming the first player to ever post at least 30 points, 20 assists, and 5 three-pointers made.
The three-time NBA All-star fired 31 points on 5-for-13 triples made and an outstanding 20 assists. He wasn’t alone in the victory though as DeAndre Hunter and Bogdan Bogdanovic recorded more than 20 points. Hunter finished with 26 while Bogdanovic caught 20 points off the bench.
The Hawks have now won their sixth straight game while the Lakers have now lost three straight.
