The Miami Heat–the team that came out alive in the Play-In tournament–almost made an unexpected come-from-behind win against the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers. It’s not something fans would see on a daily basis, however, in game 2 of the 2025 NBA Playoffs Eastern quarterfinals, the Heat could have handed the Cavs a huge upset if only Donovan Mitchell didn’t go ballistic in the fourth.

Mitchell Saves the Cavaliers’ Historic Playoff Game That Would Have Gone Down the Drain

Thanks to Spida, Cleveland takes game two to secure a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. At halftime, the Town was up by as much as 17 points after going off in the second quarter by setting a new NBA playoff record 11 three-pointers in a quarter.

However, that huge deficit would be cut down to just two after South Beach pushed back with Tyler Herro at the helm. It seems as if the momentum has shifted, and it looks like Miami finally has a chance to tie the series.

But then, Mitchell fired from all cylinders in the final moments, scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter alone. That included clutch threes to extend the lead further.

Eventually, the Cavaliers survive the game, 121-112, behind Donovan Mitchell’s game-changing performance. The six-time NBA All-Star finished with 30 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds while also shooting 7-of-10 from three.

Darius Garland also picked up some of the offensive load by going for 21 points and 9 assists. Evan Mobley, who had a quiet game 1, bounced back in game 2 with 20 points and 6 rebounds while De’Andre Hunter contributed 14 off the bench. Former Heat player, Max Strus, started the game instead of Hunter and immediately let his presence be felt by his former teammates after sinking 4 triples

The game could have gone under the wire with Tyler Herro erupting for 33 points and Bam Adebayo flirting with a playoff triple-double (11 points, 9 assists, and 14 boards).

Despite the loss, the Heat are excited to bring the competition to Florida.
