It was a nice eight-game slate around the Association on Monday, and it featured the NBA’s three unbeaten teams: the Oklahoma City Thunder, Chicago Bulls, and San Antonio Spurs. Let’s get right down to the action:
Lakers Overpower Heat Behind Unlikely Big Three
The Los Angeles Lakers (5-2) leaned on Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, and Jake LaRavia to pull out a 130-120 triumph over the Miami Heat (3-3) at Crypto.com Arena.
Doncic finished with 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists for the Lakers, who dropped 77 first-half points on the Heat in a dazzling start. Reaves continued his spectacular start to the season with 26 points and 11 assists, including one on an alley-oop to Bronny James that electrified the home crowd. LaRavia added 25 points and 8 rebounds off the Lakers bench.
Jaime Jaquez Jr. had 31 points for the Heat, whose second-half comeback fell short. Bam Adebayo scattered 17 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals.
Thunder Roar to Hot Start, Rout Pelicans
A hot start was all the Oklahoma City Thunder (7-0) needed to overwhelm the New Orleans Pelicans (0-6), 137-106, at Paycom Center.
The Thunder, who fired 39 first-quarter points to New Orleans’ 22, got 30 points and 7 assists from reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Isaiah Hartenstein added a near triple-double of 14 points, 14 rebounds, and 8 assists, while six other Thunder finished in double digits.
Zion Williamson and Trey Murphy III led the way for New Orleans with 20 and 19, respectively.
Knicks Overcome Bulls Behind Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns
The New York Knicks (3-3) leveled their record on Monday with a 128-116 victory over the erstwhile unbeaten Chicago Bulls (5-1) at Madison Square Garden.
Jalen Brunson’s 31 markers led the way for the Knicks, who had lost their previous three games coming into their matchup with the Bulls. Karl-Anthony Towns backed up Brunson with 20 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks, while Jordan Clarkson and Josh Hart came off the bench to add 15 and 14, respectively.
Josh Giddey was brilliant once more for Chicago, finishing with 23 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists, while Nikola Vucevic chipped in 17 markers and 14 boards.
Suns Dominate Previously Unbeaten Spurs
The Phoenix Suns (3-4) dominated the first three quarters on their way to a 130-118 romp over the San Antonio Spurs (5-1) at Mortgage Matchup Center.
Devin Booker starred for the Suns with game highs in points (28) and assists (13), while Ryan Dunn and Grayson Allen chipped in 17 apiece. Collin Gillespie, Jordan Goodwin, and Nick Richards added 15, 11, and 10, respectively.
