Just three games were on tap this Friday, and all three were blowouts. First, the Milwaukee Bucks snapped their six-game losing streak with a 123-100 dismantling of the Utah Jazz. Then, the Minnesota Timberwolves picked up their fifth with of the season with a 135-119 victory over the Chicago Bulls. Finally, the San Antonio Spurs outclassed the Portland Trailblazers, 118-105 as they continue to play without coach Greg Popovich.
With nothing particularly standing out in the three games on Friday, many of the notables were off the court, starting with more injury news and a bit of history for an explosive young guard.
Tyrese Maxey, Ja Morant Get Hurt
Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant will miss at least the Grizz’s next game on Saturday against the Washington Wizards due to hip soreness.
The cause of Morant’s injury is unclear, although he was limited to just 24 minutes in Memphis’w 131-114 win against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday after suffering a hard fall off a botched dunk attempt. The team announced he was out for the rest of the game due to a right hamstring issue.
Another explosive guard, the Philadelphia 76ers’ Tyrese Maxey, will also be out due to injury. Like Morant, Maxey sustained a right hamstring injury and exited the Sixers’ 110-98 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday.
The Sixers confirmed the news on Friday and said Maxey will be reevaluated after a week.
Anthony Edwards Joins Elite Company
Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards was electric once again on Friday, scoring 33 points to lead the Wolves past the Bulls on the road.
It was Edwards’ 69th career 30-point game, tying him with Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis for 15th all-time among players 23 or younger with the most 30-point games. Ant-Man, who just turned 23 in August, can next overtake Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who both scored at least 30 points in 78 games times before turning 24.
On top of that list is LeBron James, who had 173 30-point games before turning 24. Kevin Durant (129) and Luka Doncic (125) are second and third, respectively.
Bronny James G League-Bound
The Lakers have announced that the younger James is officially taking his act to the G League by way of the South Bay Lakers.
Coach JJ Redick had previously acknowledged that sending James to the G League is part of the Lakers’ big-picture plan for the young guard, who has made history with the elder James this season.
The younger James, however, will be playing only in South Bay’s home games and join the Lakers on the road.
According to ESPN, Bronny will make his G League debut on Saturday.
