Five games were on tap around the Association on Wednesday, so we’ll recap all of them for a change.
Suns Bamboozle Lakers
The Phoenix Suns welcomed back Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal in style, riding a huge third-quarter wave to throttle the Los Angeles Lakers, 127-100, at Footprint Center.
Devin Booker’s 26 points and 10 assists led the Suns, who snapped a five-game losing streak to improve to 10-7. Durant and Beal each chipped in 23. Phoenix takes on the Brooklyn Nets next Thursday.
LeBron James had 18 points and 10 assists for the Lakers, who have now lost three straight to fall to 10-7. They next play the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday.
Rockets Outlast Wolves
The Houston Rockets, powered by Alperen Sengun’s 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists, edged out the Minnesota Timberwolves in OT, 117-11, at Target Center.
Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks gave Sengun plenty of help chipping in 27 and 22, respectively. Anthony Edwards’ 29 points and 10 boards led the Wolves, who also got 21 points and 5 rebounds from Julius Randle.
The 12-6 Rockets next play the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday. The 8-9 Wolves take on the Sacramento Kings, also on Thursday.
Bucks Survive Heat
Make it five in a row for the Milwaukee Bucks and seven out of eight.
Led by Damian Lillard’s hot shooting, the Bucks built as much as a 22-point lead against the Miami Heat—then held on in the fourth quarter to pull out a 106-103 triumph at Kaseya Center.
Lillard finished with 37 points and 12 assists for the Bucks, who also got two huge late-game triples from AJ Green to fend off the comeback Heat. Jimmy Butler dropped 23 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists for Miami.
Milwaukee, which improved to 9-9, returns to action on Sunday against the Washington Wizards. Miami, which fell to 7-8, battles it out with the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday.
Spurs Trounce Jazz for Fourth Straight Win
Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle connived to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 128-115 victory against the Utah Jazz at Delta Center.
Wembanyama did it all for the 10-8 Spurs, scoring 34 points on top of 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Castle, a rookie, chipped in a season-high 23 to go along with 5 assists. With the win, San Antonio has now won four straight coming into their Thursday showdown with the Lakers.
Keynote George and Collin Sexton paced the 4-13 Jazz, with George finishing with 26 points and 7 assists and Sexton adding 20 points and 4 dimes. Utah’s next game is against the Denver Nuggets, also on Thursday.
Bulls Edge Out Wizards
Coby White led seven players in double figures for the Chicago Bulls (8-11), who cruised to a 127-108 triumph opposite the Washington Wizards (2-14).
The Bulls used a 40-18 second quarter to break the game open and never looked back. White finished with 21 points and 8 rebounds, while big man Nikola Vucevic added 19 points and 12 caroms. Five other Bulls finished in double digits, with Zach Lavine dropping 18.
Kyle Kuzma and Alex Sarr led the Wizards with 23 and 20, respectively.
The Wizards will try to break their 12-game losing streak on Thursday versus the Los Angeles Clippers. The Bulls will try to win back-to-back when they take on the Orlando Magic, also on Thursday.
