NBA: Warriors Had No Answer for Shai in MVP Form, but Still Got the Dub in Surprising Fashion

The Golden State Warriors have been super inconsistent this season. Heading into Thursday, the Dubs were exactly at 0.500 (23-23) after beating a lowly Utah Jazz yesterday. It’s been a mix of terrible shooting nights, devastating 50-point blowouts, and a few terrific games from Steph Curry.

But, Against the Thunder, Something Just Clicked With the Warriors

Facing the No.1 seed in the West, and arguably the best team in the NBA right now which also happens to house the MVP frontrunner in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Warriors were literally underdogs and seemed like they stood no chance against OKC.

Although the Thunder somehow contained Curry in the first quarter, allowing the greatest shooter of all time to only tally 2 points on 0-5 shooting, that did not paint the whole picture.

Something clicked within the Warriors and their offense escalated from poor in the first half to impeccable in the second.

Highlights: Curry’s Historic Night, Wiggins Back in Form, and GP II’s Slamma Jamma

It was a great dub for Golden State. Probably their best this season given it’s against the OKC Thunder.

Curry recorded 21 points, but what made it more special is that he passed Ray Allen (24,505) for 27th on the All-time scoring list after making 24,515 points on January 30, 2025.

Moreover, Andrew Wiggins also stepped up with 27 points and Kevon Looney tied his career-high with 18 points. Lastly, in the final moments of the game, Gary Payton II iced the game with an emphatic posted dunk over Isaiah Hartenstein.

Truly a great team effort from the 2022 champs, one thing they needed the most throughout the season.

On the other hand, despite the victory and their excellent defense, Golden State obviously had no answer for SGA. The 26-year-old superstar finished with 52 points and was just two points shy of tying his career-high 54 points, which he just made about a week ago.

Shai only made 16 of his 29 attempts but was awarded with 21 free throws in which he sank 18. Although Jalen Williams (26) and Isaiah Joe (17) gave some buckets, it’s clear OKC needs their players to step up, especially since Chet Holmgren and Alex Caruso are out due to injuries.
