Victor Wembanyama showed up during their Tuesday showdown and even made another history, but the San Antonio Spurs need to take their level of performance up a notch after almost losing to a lowly Washington Wizards.
Wembanyama-Fox Duo Looking Deadly
The future of the Spurs is bright, with Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox running the offense together as the perfect one-two punch in San Antonio. Wemby and Fox combined for 61 and made almost half of the Spurs’ total points.
Wemby finished the game with 31 points which included 5 triples. On top of that, the 7-foot-4 athletic freak grabbed 15 boards, making him the only player in history with at least 30 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 three-pointers.
The newly acquired speedster, De’Aaron Fox, also got up for 30 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists. At 27, Swipa is already coming on his own while the French stud is already breaking out as a legit superstar. It’s still too early to say if Fox is already the best compliment to Wembanyama, but fans would love to think so.
Spurs’ Struggles
San Antonio didn’t make more moves aside from landing Fox before the trade deadline, which somehow creates an issue within their ranks.
Outside of Sochan and Castle, the bench flopped heavily on the defensive end. Devin Vassell, who now starts the game, also did not produce much.
It’s surprising to see Wembanyama play 38 minutes against the worst team in the NBA just to keep the team alive through four quarters.
On the positive side, a win is a win. This marks their 23rd win this season. In the last couple of seasons, the Spurs only managed to reach 22 victories in a tight Western conference.
