Will Giannis Antetokounmpo stay in Milwaukee, or will we see the Greek Freak in a different uniform next season? What’s next for the former MVP? These are just some of the questions looming in the dark after an early playoff exit for the Bucks despite an outstanding series for Giannis. Well, what could Antetokounmpo’s offseason be
like? If he unsurprisingly moves, here are four teams that are likely to sway the future Hall-of-Famer away from Cream City.
Oklahoma City Thunder
Sam Presti acquired a plethora of draft picks in a span of just a decade, resulting in a formidable rebuild following Kevin Durant and Russel Westbrook’s departure. They just had the best record in the NBA in the 2024-2025 season and are looking to win it all with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at the helm.
However, they could still take this roster up a notch if they get Giannis Antetokounmpo in the summer. Although that would mean they have to sacrifice their picks and maybe throw in Chet Holmgren along the way, it’s definitely going to make them an even better contender. The possibilities are endless with SGA and Giannis working side by side. If they keep Jalen Williams, Lu Dort, and Isaiah Hartenstein, OKC is surely going to be a dynasty in the making.
Houston Rockets
Giannis in red seems odd, but the Rockets may just turn out to be the perfect landing spot for the former champ. Given that he could still play at the highest level, he’s going to be a force to reckon with in Houston. That is, if the trade package for him does not include Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson, two of the most talented young guys in the league right now.
Houston could offer Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and three future first-round picks in exchange for a guy like Giannis, but will the Bucks even consider building around a young athletic volume scorer in exchange for a generational talent?
Brooklyn Nets
Realistically, the Nets have a good chance of landing Antetokounmpo in the summer. However, that is if the 8-time all-star shows even the slightest of interest in playing in Brooklyn. That’s not even the challenge yet, as the Bucks would likely ask for more draft capital from the Nets.
Bed-Stuy doesn’t have a legitimate star that they could send to the Cream City, however, they do have a ton of picks and a huge cap space to make room for an MVP. A package including Cam Johnson and Ziare Williams (sign and trade) would be possible, but that leaves Milwaukee without a name they could build around in the future – unless they lean on a complete rebuild and wait for the draft picks they get to mature.
San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are among the top candidates who could ask the price for Antetokounmpo. They’ve been pretty good since having Victor Wenbanyama and Stephon Castle, but they are yet to break that
contender barrier.
As a small market team, the Spurs are trying hard to build a championship team around Wemby, and Giannis Antetokounmpo might
be the perfect combo for the 7-foot-5 center. Honestly, that would look like Twin Tower 2.0 in San Antonio.
Unfortunately, San Antonio would have to send away Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, Keldon Johnson, or, if they want to up the ante, they could offer De’Aaron Fox and some picks.
By looking at it, other teams like the Golden State Warriors and the Atlanta Hawks could still pursue Antetokounmpo. However, GSW could only wrap a package around Jonathan Kuminga, whom they’ve been eager to trade since last year, but it’s still highly doubtful that the Bucks would consider taking Kuminga as their next cornerstone.
Meanwhile, a Young-Antetokounmpo duo would be fantastic to watch in Atlanta, but just like Golden State, they don’t have much to offer.
In the grand scheme of things, only one thing is sure–Giannis will be staying with his family in the offseason. Although his future with Milwaukee is still unknown, the two-time MVP is definitely enjoying his summer with his wife and kids, away from the bright lights of the NBA.
