The Arellano University have ended their NCAA Season 100 with a podium finish as they beat Mapúa University in 5 sets last June 8 2025.

Lady Chiefs Survives Despite Historical Output of Freighanne Garcia

The Arellano Lady Chiefs wish to be part of history as winners in Season 100 but Freighanne Garcia of the Mapúa Lady Cardinals won’t allow that to happen very easily.

Garcia scored 37 points earlier this season, setting the highest single-game scoring record in NCAA women’s volleyball. The other player to do this was Vanessa Sarie, the rookie from Colegio de San Juan de Letran who scored 37 points last May 16 2025.

In the bronze medal match, Freighanne broke that record by tallying 38 points. However the Lady Cardinals couldn’t capitalize in this performance.

After the two teams traded wins in the first four sets, the Lady Chiefs found their rhythm in the deciding set. Fhaye Mangubat sparked their momentum with a swift hit that gave Arellano a 6-4 advantage. Mapua then committed consecutive attack errors, allowing Arellano to extend the lead to four points.

Mapua’s Garcia responded with a fierce run of four straight attacks, cutting the deficit to just one at 9-8. But Arellano quickly regained control with a down-the-line shot from Padillon, followed by another miscue from Mapua. The Lady Chiefs reached match point at 14-9, and a final error by Garcia sealed the victory for Arellano.

Final Score: 27-25, 25-22, 31-29, 25-20, 15-9

A lot of players shined for the Lady Chiefs. Led by Moming Padillion as she tallied 25 points, built on 22 successful attacks and three blocks. While Laika Tudlasan contributed 20 points.

Pau De Guzman, the graduating student from Arellano, made sure she’ll remember this game as part of the university as she had 14 points.

As reported by Bea Micaller of GMA News Online, another graduating student of Arellano University, KC Adante, had this to say this after their bronze medal win:

“Despite sa lahat ng pinagdaanan namin, I am extremely proud po na naka-third place pa rin po ‘yung team namin.”
“Nabuo ‘yung bond namin as a team and nakaka-proud lang talaga na nabigyan pa rin namin ng magandang exit ‘yung team this season kahit ‘di namin nakuha ‘yung championship” she added.
