The Nxled Chameleons made quick work of the Galeries Tower Highrisers in straight sets, 25-23, 25-18, 25-23, in the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Saturday, March 28.
In the third set, the Highrisers held a two-point lead, 23-21, following an attack from Erika Deloria. However, Brooke Van Sickle responded with an off-the-block hit, and Ranya Musa denied Aiza Maizo-Pontillas at the net to tie the score at 23-all.
MJ Phillips then delivered an ace, before Van Sickle blocked Maizo-Pontillas to seal the victory.
“This is a conference where there’s a lot of alchemy—it’s a strange one. Playing against Galeries is difficult because they serve very well and have a strong block. Every time we scored a point, they showed toughness,” said Nxled head coach Ettore Guidetti.
“We already lost once, and today was a tough match. Maybe not the second set, but in the other sets, they really made it difficult. At the end of the day, we won 3-0, and now we’re moving on to the next part of the conference,” he added.
Nxled Gets Measure of Revenge
In the elimination round, the Chameleons suffered a surprising loss to the Highrisers, 19-25, 25-17, 20-25, 21-25.
Phillips, who missed their first meeting this conference, led the team with 17 points built on 13 attacks, 3 blocks, and 1 ace. Van Sickle contributed 14 points, while Myla Pablo added 10.
Jules Tolentino orchestrated the offense with 12 excellent sets, while Bang Pineda tallied 13 excellent digs and eight excellent receptions.
For the Highrisers, Deloria scored 13 points, while Jean Asis was limited to 11. Roselle Baliton and Maizo-Pontillas combined for 17 points.
