The PBA Commissioner’s Cup is now three weeks old, and every team has played at least three games. That means now is the perfect time to roll out Rebanse’s first PBA Commissioner’s Cup Power Rankings.
1. Northport Batang Pier (5-0)
Northport’s high-octane offense—114.4 points per game—has carried the team to a franchise-best start. Import Kadeem Jack is filling in Northport’s big need for a big, Arvin Tolentino is still getting buckets, and Evan Nelle and Fran Yu are playing like veterans.
2. Hong Kong Eastern (5-1)
Young but disciplined and unselfish, Eastern have so far passed their acid tests, routing the TNT Tropang Giga and surviving Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. Precise shooting is predicated on constant ball and player movement proving to be a winning formula.
3. San Miguel Beermen (3-2)
Leo Austria getting reinstated as head coach means June Mar Fajardo is back to being the center of the San Miguel universe. Two monster 20-20 games and two wins later and the Beermen are suddenly looking very formidable.
4. Meralco Bolts (3-1)
That the Bolts are 3-1 despite playing all-Filipino twice already due to import woes is a credit to Meralco’s resiliency. It helps that Luigi Trillo is getting contributions up and down the roster, as seen in the team averaging 106.5 points a game.
5. Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (2-1)
Two huge wins—against Eastern and San Miguel—after an opening-day loss show Rain or Shine is growing on defense, holding down two high-powered offenses to 81 and 93, respectively. The offense isn’t even clicking on all cylinders yet.
6. Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (2-1)
Woeful 1-for-18 shooting from downtown in a loss to Eastern knocks the crowd darlings several pegs. Justin Brownlee looking ordinary three games in and Japeth Aguilar seemingly tweaking his groin against Eastern might be cause for concern moving forward.
7. NLEX Road Warriors (3-2)
Mike Watkins proving to be the perfect complement to Robert Bolick, giving the explosive playmaker a legit, athletic roll big. Offense looking prolific as well.
8. Converge FiberXers (2-2)
The talent and depth are undeniable, especially with Justine Baltazar finally joining Converge. But long stretches of sloppy play—17.3 turnovers a game so far—are undermining the team.
9. TNT Tropang Giga (1-2)
It took a combined 82 points from Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Calvin Oftana for TNT to notch its first win this conference—barely. Not exactly an encouraging sign.
10. Blackwater Bossing (1-4)
Nightly George King’s offensive show was nearly not enough for wins.
11. Phoenix Fuel Masters (0-4)
Two blowouts and two blown leads have the Fuel Masters in a bind early this conference.
12. Terrafirma Dyip (0-5)
The Dyip are trying, but there’s just not much talent there at the moment.
