The PBA Commissioner’s Cup is entering its final stretch, with most teams left with three or four games. The top six look like a lock for the playoffs, with the other two spots up for grabs.
On that note, take a look at Rebanse’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup Power Rankings spanning January 6 thru January 12.
(Note: Standings are as of January 12.)
1. NorthPort Batang Pier (7-1) ◀️▶️
Huge win over Ginebra cements NorthPort as a team to beat, especially after dropping 119 on the perennial powerhouse. Arvin Tolentino continues to shine bright, and Joshua Munzon is looking more and more ike a superstar.
2. TNT Tropang Giga (4-2) ⏫
Close win over Converge gives the Tropa four straight wins after opening the conference 0-2. That defense is starting to tighten up once more and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson appears to be rounding into playoff form. The return of big man Kelly Williams gives TNT a surefire difference-maker.
3. Converge FiberXers (6-3) ⏬
Close loss to TNT is both a reminder that Converge has a lot to learn and proof that it can hang with the best of ‘em. Justine Baltazar setting career-highs in points in back-to-back games ought to galvanize the FiberXers, who are already getting superlative play from Jordan Heading, Alec Stockton, and Schonny Winston.
4. Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (5-2) ⏬
Blip on the road for Rain or Shine as Phoenix serves a reminder of what happens when that run-and-gun style isn’t firing on all cylinders. But that balanced attack has largely been on target, with the Elasto Painters getting production up and down the roster.
5. Hong Kong Eastern (6-3) ◀️▶️
Extended break gives Eastern the chance to recalibrate that sputtering offense. The defense continues to be solid, but the guests will need to be on the mark with their shooting as the conference hits the homestretch.
6. Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (6-3) ⏬
Inconsistency continues to hound the crowd darlings, particularly on offense. The team’s three-point shooting, the best last conference, blew hot and cold against NorthPort and was atrocious against Blackwater. Time for Ginebra to step on the gas, if anything.
7. Meralco Bolts (5-3) ⏬
Meralco’s furious fightback against TNT just fell short, but it looks like the team is starting to find a groove on defense—it’s calling card when in won the Philippine Cup a year ago. The return of Chris Banchero and Brandon Bates ought to help the Bolts in their final push for the playoffs.
8. Phoenix Fuel Masters (3-5) ⏫
Two wins to start 2025—including an upset of Rain or Shine—have the Fuel Masters just a game out of the playoff circle. Donovan Smith is quietly putting up Best Import-type numbers in leading this young but talented Phoenix core.
9. San Miguel Beermen (4-4) ◀️▶️
CJay Perez unleashed the baby beast on Magnolia and saved the Beermen from dropping to the pits of the standings. But San Miguel still looks like a team in transition and in need of an import who could be a better fit to June Mar Fajardo.
10. NLEX Road Warriors (3-5) ⏬
Robert Bolick running the show and Mike Watkins putting up big numbers aren’t translating to wins largely because no one else is stepping up.
11. Magnolia Hotshots (3-6) ⏬
Loss to San Miguel further dims Magnolia’s playoff hopes. Might be time for some drastic changes.
12. Blackwater Bossing (1-7) ◀️▶️
Like NLEX, only two players—import George King and Sedrick Barefield—doing damage for Blackwater.
13. Terrafirma Dyip (0-9) ◀️▶️
Stanley Pringle and Vic Manuel are trying. Maybe the return of Terrence Romeo can help.
