The #1 San Miguel Beermen (4-2) dominated in the first half and held on strong in the fourth to secure a 101-88 victory and eliminate the #5 Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (2-4) on Game 6 of the PBA Philippine cup semifinals on January 16.
Here are the players who made the biggest impact and the stats to prove it:
TOP PERFORMERS OF THE DAY:
Jaymar Perez SMB SF 41 PTS | 1 REB | 3 AST | 43.7 FPS
Perez put on a show, shooting a perfect 12-for-12 and scoring 30 points in the first quarter alone. It was the most points ever scored by a player in the first quarter in PBA history and the second most in any quarter overall. He also surpassed his previous season high in the second quarter and went on to finish the game with a career-high performance.
Earl Scottie Thompson GIN SG 24 PTS | 9 REB | 3 AST | 40.3 FPS
Thompson finished with another team-high in scoring while also making a strong impact in other areas. He’s been Ginebra’s leading scorer in the playoffs, averaging 19 points with 6.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists in eight games.
Celedonio Trollano SMB SF 23 PTS | 8 REB | 1 BLK | 37.6 FPS
Trollano delivered in the final quarter, scoring 11 points to help San Miguel stay in the lead. While he is certainly capable of performances like this, as shown by his 33-point explosion in Game 3, he has not been very consistent throughout the playoffs.
June Mar Fajardo SMB C 4 PTS | 18 REB | 3 AST | 28.1 FPS
JMF appears to remain bothered by his injury, setting a new conference low in scoring and posting his third game with fewer than 10 points over his last four. But you can always count on him in rebounding, putting up 18 or more rebounds in six out of seven games in the playoffs.
Rhon Jay Abarrientos GIN PG 12 PTS | 5 AST | 1 STL | 26.9 FPS
RJ opened the playoffs in impressive form, putting up 24 points per game across his first four contests. Since then, he has struggled to find a consistent offensive rhythm.
Japeth Paul Aguilar GIN C 10 PTS | 8 REB | 2 BLK | 26.6 FPS
Japeth contributed well in defense and has also scored in double digits in each of his last four games, but his overall impact in this conference has still been lacking.
Norberto Brian Torres GIN C 13 PTS | 4 REB | 1 BLK | 25.3 FPS
Torres provided another solid spark off the bench, knocking down 3 three-pointers for his sixth double-digit scoring game of the conference.
Christopher Ross SMB PG 8 PTS | 4 REB | 4 AST | 23.8 FPS
Ross has been a consistent all-around contributor in this series, averaging 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 1.5 steals in six games.
Moala Tautuaa SMB C 8 PTS | 4 REB | 2 BLK | 19.8 FPS
Tautuaa has made a much bigger impact in recent games and turned in another solid output for his position in Game 6.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE DAY:
Stephen Holt GIN SG 8 PTS | 7 REB | 1 STL
Holt has really struggled against SMB this conference, finishing with fewer than 10 points five times.
