The PVL All Filipino Conference hit the road on Saturday, taking volleyball action to Ilocos Sur’s Candon City Arena. And the league made sure to bring the big guns: the Creamline Cool Smashers, Petro Gazz Angels, Akari Chargers, and Farm Fresh Foxies.
Here is a recap of the action:
Petro Gazz Turns Back Farm Fresh
The Petro Gazz Angels started the double-header off with a bang, sweeping the Farm Fresh Foxies, 25-21, 25-17, 25-19, to get back on the winning track.
Brooke Van Sickle excelled in what was a homecoming of sorts, pacing Petro Gazz with 20 points, with many coming in crucial stretches in the first and third sets, when Farm Fresh put up gallant stands. Van Sickle, whose mother hails from Ilocos Sur, added 4 excellent digs.
Myla Pablo and Aiza Pontillas chipped in 11 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Angels, who hiked their record to 2-1. The still winless Foxies were led by Trisha Tubu’s 14 points.
Petro Gazz will get an 11-day break before they plunge back to action on December 5 against the Akari Chargers at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Farm Fresh will look to get its first win in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on the same day and venue when they go up against the Zus Coffee Thunderbelles.
Creamline Sweeps Akari
The Creamline Cool Smashers once again showed their championship mettle, besting the Akari Chargers in straight sets, 26-24, 25-17, 25-16, in a rematch of the PVL Reinforced Conference Finals from earlier this year.
Veteran Jema Galanza typified Creamline’s dominance, finishing with 13 points on top of five excellent receptions and 4 excellent digs. Bea De Leon and Bernadeth Pons provided additional firepower for the 2-0 Cool Smashers, with De Leon chipping in 12 points built on 10 hits, an ace, and a kill block, and Pons contributing 10 points and 4 excellent digs.
Creamline also got a major boost in this match with the return of three-time MVP Tots Carlos, who checked in with fellow former MVP Alyssa Valdez to raucous cheers from a roaring pro-Cool Smashers crowd.
The Cool Smashers will next get a nine-day break before they try to make it three in a row on December 3, when they take on sister team Choco Mucho Flying Titans at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The Akari Chargers will try to bounce back on December 5 when they face the Petro Gazz Angels, also at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Winless Teams Look for Breakthrough as PVL Returns to PhilSports
Two winless teams—the Nxled Chameleons and Capital1 Solar Spikers—will look to barge into the win colum on Tuesday as the PVL All-Filipino Conference continues at the PhilSports Arena. The Solar Spikers will go up against the PLDT High Speed Hitters in the first game, while the Chameleons will battle it out with the Chery Tiggo Crossovers in the second match.
