After stumbling against sister team Cignal Super Spikers, the PLDT High Speed Hitters wasted no time regaining their footing, sweeping the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, 25-23, 25-23, 25-13, in the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the FilOil Centre on Saturday, February 28.
PLDT came out firing, building an early eight-point cushion at 13-5 in the opening set. But the Thunderbelles, anchored by veteran opposite hitter Jovelyn Gonzaga, clawed their way back and even grabbed a slim 22-21 lead.
With the set hanging in the balance, Savi Davison took control, hammering back-to-back hits to push PLDT to set point at 24-23. Chinnie Arroyo’s costly error handed the High Speed Hitters the opener, 25-23.
PLDT Dictates Tempo, Imposes Will on ZUS Coffee
The second set followed a similar script. ZUS Coffee dictated much of the frame before PLDT tightened up defensively and capitalized late to steal another 25-23 win.
By the third set, the High Speed Hitters had fully seized momentum, cruising to a dominant 25-13 finish.
“Hindi ’yung may kailangang i-prove, pero ’yung pagbabalik lang talaga sa sistema namin, ’yung disiplina at focus lang talaga kailangan,” said head coach Rald Ricafort.
Davison led PLDT with 17 points built on 13 attacks, 3 blocks, and 1 ace. Kianna Dy added 16 markers, while the team’s balanced play kept ZUS Coffee from mounting another late surge.
For the Thunderbelles, Gonzaga was the lone double-digit scorer with 10 points, all from attacks.
