The PLDT High Speed Hitters spoiled the highly anticipated return of Jia De Guzman, sweeping the Creamline Cool Smashers, 25-22, 25-17, 25-23, in the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the FilOil Centre in San Juan on Thursday, February 5.
PLDT Leans on Savi Davison
Savi Davison set the tone early, erupting for 13 points in the opening set to seize momentum for PLDT. Creamline attempted a late rally in the third, tying the score at 23-all after back-to-back errors by Davison and Kim Fajardo, but the comeback bid fell short.
Davison responded with a decisive attack before Jovelyn Prado sealed the win by blocking Tots Carlos, completing a statement victory for the High Speed Hitters.
Davison finished with 26 points on 23 attacks and 3 blocks. For perspective, the rest of PLDT’s roster combined for 29 points.
“You know what, they were pretty intimidating when they came out. I’m not going to lie, all of them were complete. I knew that it was going to be a hard match,” Davison said after the win.
“Like I said, I’m just happy that we were able to win tonight. We try to do this every game moving forward. I don’t want it to go to our heads, but it’s one game at a time,” she added.
PLDT Has Creamline’s Number
With the victory, PLDT extended its winning streak over Creamline, which has now gone winless against the High Speed Hitters for two years.
“Yun nga, every time na Creamline talaga ‘yung kalaban, gusto talaga namin ‘yung challenge. Nilalabas talaga nila ‘yung laro ng mga players na alam nila na big game talaga palagi, especially bumalik si Jia and Pons. Mataas ‘yung respect namin sa dalawa,” said PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort.
“Kaya naging gano’n din ‘yung tutok. Siguro sumakto lang din talaga na ‘yung momentum coming from our training camp, medyo nandoon pa. Kaya very happy kami sa naging result,” he added.
For Creamline, Bernadeth Pons recorded a triple-double in her return to indoor play with 13 points, 11 excellent digs, and 10 excellent receptions. Carlos added 11 points along with 8 excellent digs.
