Saturday was the last play date of the PVL in 2024, and it rightfully featured three of the league’s top teams as the PVL All-Filipino Conference continued at PhilSports Arena. Here is a recap of the two matches:

Chery Tiggo Outlasts Galeries with Thrilling Fight Back

Down two sets to one, the Chery Tiggo Crossovers had to muster the wherewithal to author a stirring comeback. They did exactly that, storming back in the final two sets for a 30-28, 20-25, 19-25, 25-16, 15-8 triumph over the Galeries Tower Highrisers.

Cess Robles typified the Crossovers fighting spirit, ending up with 21 points, 9 excellent digs, and 11 receptions to go along with her relentless energy and crucial hits. Four other Chery Tiggo players finished in double-digits, with Aby Maraño chipping in 15, Pauline Gaston netting 14, and Shaya Adorador and Ara Galang adding 13 and 11, respectively.

France Ronquillo paced Galeries Tower with 18 points. Jewel Encarnacion and Ysa Jimenez contributed 16 and 15 markers, respectively, in the Highrisers’ gallant stand.

Galeries Tower, who dropped to 1-5, returns to action on January 21 in a triple-header that will also include the 4-2 Crossovers. The Hightowers will take on the Cignal HD Spikers in the first game, with the Chery Tiggo facing off with the Petro Gazz Angels in the third game.

Petro Gazz Sweeps Cignal, Claims Top Spot to End 2024

Ranged against unbeaten opposition, the Petro Gazz Angels turned in one of their best performances as of late, sweeping the Cignal HD Spikers, 25-19, 25-21, 25-18, to improve to 5-1 for the tournament—first in the league.

Brook Van Sickle led the Angels’ dominant showing, finishing with 19 points highlighted by 6 kill blocks that underscored her versatility and tenacity. Myla Pablo continued her resurgence, adding 15 for Petro Gazz, who also got 11 markers from MJ Phillips.

Ces Molina chipped in 10 for Cignal, who dropped to 4-1. Vanie Gandler finished with 9.

Both teams will be part of the aforementioned triple bill on January 21 at the PhilSports Arena, with Cignal taking on Galeries Tower in the first game. The Angels stake their league-leading record against the Crossovers.

PVL All-Filipino Conference Continues

The PVL will take on a month-long break and will return on January 18 with a triple-header to continue the PVL All-Filipino Conference. The first game will be Farm Fresh Foxies vs. Nxled Chameleons. The second game will be Zus Coffee Thunderbelles vs. Choco Much Flying Titans. The third game will be Akari Chargers vs. PLDT High Speed Hitters.
