TNT grabbed an imposing 3-1 series lead after surviving a heart-stopping battle against Rain or Shine on October 16.
In a game, marked with thrilling action and clutch moments, it was the Tropang Giga’s defense and composure that helped them move a win away from the finals.
Hollis-Jefferson’s Late Heroics Propel TNT in a Nail-biting Finish
However, it was Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, the reigning Best Import of the Conference, who truly made the difference. His standout performance catapulted his team to the victory. He finished with a dominant 23 points, 19 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, and 5 blocks.
His electrifying presence was felt most in the final minutes. Where he helped reclaim the lead for TNT after throwing down a nasty dunk over Fuller (81-79) and then followed it up with a crucial block on the other end. Rain or Shine had a chance to send the game in OT after Jhonard Clarito grabbed an offensive rebound but RHJ snatched the ball away and sealed the win.
TNT dictated the pace of the game as evidenced by the low-scoring numbers but Rain or Shine managed to stay close thanks to Fuller’s heavy lifting. He finished with another huge double-double with 22 points. Leonard Santillan and Jhonard Clarito both made some key plays down the stretch but their efforts weren’t enough for Rain or Shine to level the series.
The Tropang Giga faced several challenges in the fourth quarter, with JP Erram in foul trouble and the team committing three quick fouls. However, Rain or Shine failed to capitalize. It was a tightly contested affair but TNT would regain the lead after Rey Nambatac connected on a crucial three-pointer (79-76) with just a minute remaining. ROS would tie the game but RHJ stepped up and delivered when it mattered the most.
