It takes a special kind of effort to beat a super team like the Creamline Cool Smashers.
That’s exactly what Savi Davison delivered for the PLDT High Speed Hitters in their thrilling 30-28, 25-21, 23-25, 18-25, 16-14 victory over Creamline on Saturday at the continuation of the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
Davison was simply sensational, firing a career-best 34 points anchored on 29 kills. But she didn’t just provide firepower for PLDT. She also helped out on defense, recording 5 blocks and 17 excellent receptions to help the High Speed hitters put an emphatic end to Creamline’s 19-match winning streak dating back to last season.
For her effort, the 26-year-old sensation scribes unanimously voted her as the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week for February 11 to 15. She beat previous winners Myla Pablo of the Petro Gazz Angels and Bernadeth Pons, who had 29 points of her own in that five-set thriller between Creamline and PLDT.
‘Everyone Showed Up’—Savi Davison Deflects Credit, Gives It to Team
Despite her phenomenal showing against the Cool Smashers, Davison refused to take all the credit. Instead, she gave every member of the High Speed Hitters their flowers for helping out in beating the mighty Pink Squad.
“I think it was extra special because it took every single one of us—from the bench to the people on the court. Coach was able to shuffle in a lot of people, especially shoutout to Nieza [Viray], she hasn’t gotten on the court much this year but she really pulled through for us and got this win for us. Like I said, it’s a team effort regardless of what I do, everyone showed up today,” said Davison.
Viray, of course, was just one of PLDT’s unsung heroes against Creamline, holding the fort after Kath Arado suffered from cramps. Other High Speed Hitters who played starring roles were Majoy Baron (15) points, Fiola Ceballos (14) Mika Reyes (12), and Erika Santos (11). But Savi Savison, the PVL’s leading scorer with 245 total already, was the star of stars that night, and she was fitting recognized for her stunning effort.
