Tenny Madis turned emotional in the aftermath of her heartbreaking loss in the Round of 32 of the WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open. It doesn’t mean she’s fazed by it, though.

The SEA Games bronze medalist gamely faced the media on Monday night after losing to Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew, 6-4, 6-0, in first-round action at the WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open. And while teary eyed, Madis vowed to get better, armed with her learnings from a her first-ever WTA event.

“It’s a lot of learnings, and I really need to improve pa a lot and I will, I think I will train hard pa in my next tournament.”

The 18-year-old actually put up a great showing in Set 1 against Sawangkaew, but she ultimately fell short, with the Thai ace winning the opening set in 6-4. In Set 2, there was nothing the young Filipina could do to stop Sawangkaew’s avalanche of points.

Madis Cherishes Learning Experience

Sawangkaew has some WTA experience already and has even played in a Grand Slam—the Australian Open—against Emma Raducanu. And the chance to play against elite competition certainly wasn’t lost on Madis.

“Its an honor to play against her, and she’s a good and experienced player,” Madis said of Sawangkaew. “All I can say is it’s a great learning and opportunity to play with her.”

If it’s any consolation, the Thai ace thinks highly of Madis as well, telling the crowd on Monday that the young Filipina bet “improved a lot” and will “be a good player in the future.”

So, while the feeling of losing will no doubt sting for Madis, her valiant showing on Monday and the love she got from her opponent should only motivate her to move forward. After all, there’s no other path to success than moving forward and getting over tough losses like.

And it looks like Tenny Madis is the type of player who can bounce back from adversity.
