The Terrafirma Dyip and Titan Ultra Giant Risers opened the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday. The Dyip pulled out the win, routing the Giant Risers, 112-82, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
What Happened?
After a nip-and-tuck first quarter that ended with Terrafirma up, 26-23, the Dyip began creating separation with a 26-17 second frame. They then turned things up even more in the third, outscoring the Giant Risers, 37-22, to take a 27-point lead into the final frame. Terrafirma cruised from there to secure the blowout victory.
Who Stood Out?
After scoring just 4 points in the first half, Jerrick Ahanmisi turned supernova in the second, firing 22 on a variety of baskets to lead Terrafirma’s charge. He added 7 assists and 5 steals in a fitting follow-up to his PBA All-Star Weekend excellence.
On the other side, there were very few positives for Titan Ultra, save maybe for import Michael Gilmore and Joshua Munzon scoring 32 apiece. Unfortunately, Gilmore did most of his damage only in the first half, while Munzon’s points came too few and far between.

3 Keys to the Game
- Jerrick Ahanmisi, flame thrower. Ahanmisi, who won both the Obstacle Challenge for guards and the Three-Point Shootout in PBA All-Star Weekend, went off in the second half, dropping 22 points and making play after play after play to widen Terrafirma’s lead.
- Ball movement. With the Ahanmisi brothers, Jerrick and Maverick, manning the point of attack, the Dyip moved the ball around and found the open man, with import Mubashar Ali on the receiving end of several dimes.
- Defense. While the Dyip were prolific all throughout, it was their defense that held the fort, holding down Titan Ultra to just 62 points after three and 82 for the entire game. They also held Gilmore, who exploded for 22 first-half points, to only 10 in the last 24 minutes.
