San Beda Red Lions super rookie Agjanti Miller made headlines recently not only for helping the Red Lions win an NCAA-leading 24th title overall, but also for his out-of-nowhere proclamation that San Beda is headed to rival league UAAP.
But that wasn’t Miller’s only hot take, because he also took a shot at newly minted back-to-back NCAA MVP Allen Liwag of the College of Saint Benilde Blazers—sort of.
Agjanti Miller Has a Point
For context, Agjanti Miller was initially asked about his NCAA journey thus far, from playing his very first game to now being a champion for the Red Lions.
“I feel like I grew a lot this year both as a person and as a basketball player. I’m glad to do it with red and white Beda. I wouldn’t do it with any other team, and yeah, I’m glad,” Miller replied, before throwing a jab at MVP Allen Liwag.
“I also didn’t know you needed to play seven games for MVP,” said Miller.
The likely reason behind this is that Liwag only played seven games in the regular season. Miller, on the other hand, played in 13 of San Beda’s 14 games. The two players’ stats also compare favorably, with Agjanti Miller having a noticeable edge in scoring:
- Liwag: 15.7 PPG, 9.0 RPG, 2.0 APG, 53% FG
- Miller: 20.4 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 1.1 APG, 43% FG
Naturally, Rebanse asked Miller if he’s aiming to win the MVP award next season. His answer?
“Yeah, for sure. That was crazy, I didn’t expect that.”
Forget About Hoops for Awhile
As for what skills he intends to work on and amplify come offseason, Agjanti Miller was a bit tight-lipped, although his immediate plan is to go home first and “not touch a basketball for months.”
“You’ll see next year. For right now I have no decision to be honest with you,” Miller told Rebanse. “I just gotta head back home, rest, not touch a basketball for months, and just come make my decision. I just wanna go home and live.”
That sounds like a good plan for Agjanti Miller after a spectacular rookie season capped off with a championship. Needless to say, he deserves the rest he’ll be getting as he gears up for a potential MVP season next year.
