The Bad, The Ugly, The Quentin Millora-Brown Story

It appears that some of the questions the Filipino basketball community has been eager to know about Quentin Millora-Brown have finally been answered in the past few days, just not with the response they were expecting.

Won’t Join the Rookie Draft for the 50th Season

Ever since the 6-foot-10 player of UP Fighting Maroons won the title in the UAAP Season 87, a lot of basketball fans are more than curious if QMB will join the PBA Draft.

After 7 months, the answer to that question is “no”.

In a report by Homer Sayson of Spin.ph, he mentioned that it’s not one of his options.

“Quentin Millora-Brown will not enter his name in this year’s PBA draft,” his American agent, Tod Seidel, told Sayson on Tuesday (June 22) morning.

Another report from Naveen Ganglani of All Star Magazine has published the same kind of news.

“I can tell you with 100% certainty he will not be in the draft,” the same source confirmed to Ganglani.

And when asked about why such a decision could prompt the supposed to be #1 overall pick of this 2025 PBA Draft for the league’s 50th season come September 7, here’s what the source of Ganglani has to say:

“He had pro offers since before going to UP and certainly has plenty now.”

Also in the story of Sayson, he mentioned that QMB will be heading to Europe to pursue his professional career.

Will Play AGAINST Gilas Pilipinas

Ever since Kai Sotto went down with his injury last January 5, 2025, many Gilas fans have voiced their opinions on having the UAAP Champ be part of the Gilas pool.

It appears we will see QMB share the same court with the Philippine Men’s National Basketball Team…he is just on the opposing side.

Last July 20, the news broke out via Instagram that the Macau Black Bears will officially sign Millora-Brown and play in the team’s journey competing at the fourth leg of The Asian Tournament in Shanxi, China.

In his one-and-done year with the University of the Philippines, he averaged 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists.

Playing in his first game with the Black Bears, Quentin tallied 13 points, 10 rebounds to go along with 2 assists and 2 steals as they got the 95-89 win over the Hong Kong Vantablack Dragons.

And in his second game with the team, he was everywhere. He recorded 6 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal, and 2 blocks.

Gilas fans will see more of him come next week, July 28, as the Macau Black Bears take on the Gilas Pilipinas in a send-off game for the Philippines before competing in the FIBA Asia Cup come August.

Eligible as a Naturalized Player, NOT as a Local

This update has to be the most heartbreaking one as Quentin Millora-Brown cannot play as a local player for the national team, and he can only play for the squad as a naturalized player.

But Gilas already has a number of naturalized players: Justin Brownlee, Ange Kouame, and the on-going naturalization of Bennie Boatwright.

Included in the same story of Naveen Ganglani, his source confirmed this news, saying:

“He’s already been classified as naturalized by FIBA to everyone’s disappointment.”

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) had spent several months attempting to establish that Millora-Brown obtained his Philippine passport before turning 16, which is a key FIBA rule for dual citizens to qualify as local players. Millora-Brown himself affirmed that timeline late last year. However, despite those efforts, it appears the reclassification has already been made official.

“It’s a very, very long pathway that simply doesn’t make sense for Q’s career,” the source added. “You don’t even know at the end of that long road if it will work, so unfortunately, it’s beyond impractical.”

Despite this sad news, the source remains hopeful to see QMB wear the iconic blue and white jersey in the future.

“Hopefully, they will call him one day because it’s a dream of Q’s to represent the Philippines,” the source said. “That’s up to them to call him; it’s completely out of our hands now.”

Tim Cone Got His Approval Back Then

Way back on February 25, 2025, Gilas Pilipinas Head Coach Tim Cone expressed his interest in having QMB part of his team.

From an interview with News5’s Nina Ongpauco on One Sports, here’s what the winningest PBA coach has to say:

“Yeah, I would love to have a 6’10” young player coming to the pool, but it’s all about the eligibility, that’s still part of it. That’s not in my control, but SBP and the DFA on whether he is going to be eligible.”

His last line sparked “hope” for fans, only to find out many months later that it won’t turn into reality.

“Also, FIBA has to decide that as well. If he is eligible, of course, we will pick him up.”
