On Tuesday, LeBron James sent social media abuzz by posting a 10-second video clip of him walking to a chair and sitting on it, face-to-face with another man. The scene harkened back to his now infamous “The Decision” of 2010, where he told sports journalist Jim Gray he was “taking his talents to Miami.”
The clip ended with text that read, “The Second Decision: Coming Soon,” while James wrote this caption: “The decision of all decisions. October 7th. 12 pm EST”—with the hashtag #TheSecondDecision.
Almost instantaneously, fans, pundits, and experts alike took to social media to speculate about James’s announcement. Some think it’s retirement. Others speculate a trade request. A few believe it’s some sort of mega-deal with something or someone.
What’s It All About, The Second Decision?
Given the magnitude of what James announced in The Decision back in 2010, it seems fair to surmise that the NBA’s all-time leading scorer will be announcing something just as compelling. Retirement is an obvious bet here, but so is a trade request that would force the Los Angeles Lakers to think about their future. Maybe LeBron will announce he’ll wait for his son Bryce for a possible father-son-son shot at history.
But when you take into account LeBron’s reputation as an attention-seeking, look-let’s-talk-about-me mega-diva and reports from reputable sources, it’s just as likely that The Second Decision is another PR stunt and is much ado about nothing.
NBA insider Brett Siegel even hinted that The Second Decision might have something to do with Amazon and its Prime Big Deal Days 2025, which are set to take place on October 7 and 8. Incidentally, The Second Decision will be aired on October 7 at noon. LeBron also starred in Amazon’s “What’s Next” campaign for Prime Day 2025, where he filmed a commercial about retirement rumors. What’s more, the retail giant is among the distributors of James’s Mind the Game podcast and The Shop Men’s Grooming Line.
So, what do you think? Is LeBron really announcing something compelling, or is he just pulling our leg again and looking for attention?
We’ll all find out soon enough.
