A Long-Awaited Victory for Spurs
Before this, Tottenham’s last major trophy came in the 2008 Football League Cup. Their previous FA Cup win was in 1991, while their most recent European success was in the 1984 UEFA Cup (the predecessor to the Europa League). Spurs last won the European Cup Winners’ Cup title in 1961.
Son Heung-min’s Historic Achievement
Tottenham captain Son Heung-min, now 32, is widely considered one of the greatest Asian footballers of all time. He was the first Asian player to win the Premier League Golden Boot and to score 100 Premier League goals. However, a major team trophy had always remained out of reach—until now.
In 2023, Son famously turned down a €120 million offer from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad, choosing instead to stay loyal to Spurs in pursuit of glory.
