The De La Salle University Green Spikers and the University of Santo Tomas Golden Spikers joined the Far Eastern University Tamaraws and the National University Bulldogs in the final four of the UAAP Season 87 Men’s Volleyball Tournament.
The Tamaraws and the Bulldogs have the twice-to-beat advantage, with the Far Eastern University in the top spot of the standings with a 12-1 win-loss record, closely followed by the National University with 11-2.
The Golden Spikers and the Green Spikers are currently tied in the third and fourth spots with an identical 8-4 win-loss record.

Noel Kampton recorded 24 points as the De La Salle University Green Spikers avoided an upset against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 11-25, 25-18, 25-21, 28-30, 15-9, on Sunday, April 13.
Kampton had 22 attack points and two aces, while Glen Rui Ventura contributed 16 points in 14 attacks and two blocks. Nathaniel Del Pilar contributed 11 points.
For the Fighting Maroons, Olayemi Raheem scored a game-high 25 points in 22 attacks, two blocks, and an ace, while Daniel Nicolas had 16 points in 12 attacks and four blocks. Tommy Castrodes recorded 13 points, while Angelo Lipata added 10 points.
After the game, Green Spikers head coach Jose Roque said that his team worked hard for that victory. He said, “With the game, I think trinabaho naman talaga namin, pero gaya nung sinasabi ko sa team ko, kung sino ‘yung nasa harap, gagawa talaga ‘yan ng paraan just to beat us, kaya kailangan natin lumaban talaga. ‘Yun lang ‘yung reminder namin sa kanila, and nag-respond naman ‘yung team.”
With the win, the Green Spikers improved to an 8-4 win-loss record, while the Fighting Maroons dropped to 3-9.
The De La Salle University will take on the Adamson University Soaring Falcons on Wednesday, April 23, at 11 am. Earlier that day, the University of the Philippines will take on the University of Santo Tomas Golden Spikers at 9 am.

Jan Lanfred Abanilla of the National University Bulldogs scored his season-high 11 points in his team’s victory against the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, 30-28, 25-23, 25-16, on Sunday, April 13.
Buds Buddin led the Bulldogs with 15 points in 10 attacks, three blocks, and two aces, while team captain Leo Aringo contributed 12 points in 11 attacks and an ace.
For the Blue Eagles, Kennedy Batas was limited to 12 points in 11 attacks and an ace, while Amil Pacinio contributed 11 points. Jian Salarzon added 10 points.
After the game, Bulldogs head coach Dante Alinsunurin admitted that the twice-to-beat was on their minds before the start of the game. He said, “Bago kami pumunta talaga rito, minindset namin na kailangan namin itong game na ito kasi ito ‘yung magiging advantage pagdating ng Final Four. Sa pinakita ng players ko na kahit sinong ipasok, nag-deliver sila at sobrang thankful ako sa naging performance kasi sa situation na ito na anytime, kahit sino ‘yung hugutin ko, magpe-perform.”
With the win, the Bulldogs got the twice-to-beat advantage with an 11-2 win-loss record. Meanwhile, the Blue Eagles fell with a 6-7 record.
The National University will end their eliminations against the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses on Sunday, April 27, at 9 am. Meanwhile, the Ateneo de Manila University will take on the University of the East Lady Red Warriors on Saturday, April 26, at 9 am.

The Far Eastern University Tamaraws only needed an hour and five minutes to defeat the Adamson University Soaring Falcons, 25-16, 25-16, 25-22, on Saturday, April 12.
Rookie Amet Bituin and Zhydryx Saavedra both scored 13 points apiece. Saavedra recorded 10 attacks, two blocks, and an ace, while Bituin had nine attacks, three blocks, and an ace.
For the Soaring Falcons, no player scored in double digits as Mark Leo Coguimbal and Marc Kenneth Paulino were limited to six points apiece.
On the verge of securing the top spot in the standings, Tamaraws head coach Eddison Orcullo reminded his bench players to stay ready. He said, “‘Yung players kasi na 14 na nasa roster namin, hindi pwede mag-relax lang na nagchi-cheer ka lang doon sa anim sa loob. Dapat ma-seize rin nila ‘yung moment na makuha nila ‘yung chance na ma-showcase ‘yung sarili nila, everytime na ginagamit at pinapasok sila, dapat all out ‘yung bigay nila sa match.”
With the win, the Tamaraws are now assured of the top spot with a 12-1 win-loss record, while the Soaring Falcons fell to 2-10 card.
The Far Eastern University will face the De La Salle University Green Spikers on Saturday, April 26, at 11 am. Meanwhile, Adamson University will try to bounce back against the Green Spikers on Wednesday, April 23, at 11 am.

The University of Santo Tomas Golden Spikers recorded 46 attack points in their quick 25-20, 25-17, 25-20 victory against the University of the East Red Warriors on Saturday, April 12. In comparison, the Red Warriors only had 20 attack points.
Josh Ybañez once again led the team with 15 points, while Popoy Colinares and Jay Rack De La Noche combined for 23 points.
For the Red Warriors, no player scored in double digits as Roy Gabriel Piojo was limited to nine points. Isaiah Roca had six, while Raquim Aceron added five.
After the game, Golden Spikers head coach Odjie Mamon revealed that their game plan is now based on their specific opponents. He said, “I think ‘yung preparation namin ngayon over our win streak, it’s geared to our specific opponent na. Nung first round kasi, puro kami internal preparations lang. Pero this time, we try to match up. May mga lapses, pero thankful na napa-follow naman ‘yung game plan.”
With the win, the Golden Spikers improved to an 8-4 win-loss record, while the Red Warriors are still winless in 13 games.
