The University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses scored big wins against the De La Salle University Lady Spikers and the Adamson University Lady Falcons to stay at the second place of the standing with three wins and one loss.
Angeline Poyos was the anchor in the Golden Tigresses’ victory against the Lady Spikers and the Lady Falcons, together with opposite spiker Regina Jurado, who had been a much-needed support for the team. The defending champions, the National University Lady Bulldogs, still sit on top of the standings with four wins in as many games.

The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws recorded 20 block points in their hard-fought 25-15, 20-20, 25-17, 24-26, 15-11 win against the Ateneo de Manilla University Blue Eagles. In comparison, the Blue Eagles only had two block points.
Gerzel Mary Petallo led the Lady Tamaraws with 18 points on 14 attacks, while Faida Bakanke had 15 points on 10 attacks and five blocks. Mitzi Panangin was the spark off the bench, contributing 11 points. On the side of the Blue Eagles, team captain Lyann De Guzman delivered 23 points on 21 attacks, while Sophia Buena contributed 18 points. Alexis Miner and Yvana Sulit combined for 23 points in a losing effort.
Lady Tamaraws head coach Tina Salak was happy with the win but admitted that there were adjustments the girls needed to learn. She said after the match, “Actually, marami kaming adjustments. Very happy din that they performed, ‘yun nga lang sabi ko nga dapat hindi kulang, dapat ready sila in case na ganito ang mangyari. Gusto pa namin pukpukin ‘yung mga ito na pagdating towards the second round, ready na kami to fight back nga sa lahat ng nagiging struggles namin ngayon.”

After their heartbreaking five-set loss against the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses, the De La Salle University Lady Spikers bounced back against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 25-22, 24-26, 25-18, 25-17.
Angel Canino and Shevana Laput combined for 45 big points, while Katrina Del Castillo had 11 markers. On the side of the Fighting Maroons, Irah Jaboneta scored 15 points, while Joan Monares added 11.
Canino admitted that the team is slowly getting the confidence they need, especially coming into the second round. She said, “Kahit na galing po kami sa talo, and yung standing namin parang on edge din, parang yung mindset talaga namin is one day at a time lang. Ang maganda ngayon is may nagkakaroon na rin kami ng kumpyansa as a team and sa sarili kaya sana madala dala din po namin yun every game.”

The National University Lady Bulldogs only needed an hour and 11 minutes to defeat the University of the East Lady Red Warriors, 25-12, 25-11, 25-20.
Bella Belen fired off 18 points, while Vange Alinsug contributed 10 markers. On the side of the Lady Red Warriors, no player scored in double digits as KC Cepada and Nessa Bangayan were limited to seven points apiece.
For Belen, it didn’t matter who they were facing as they gave everything they got in every game. She said, “Kahit sinong kalaban namin, kailangan ‘yung effort na binibigay namin is 100 percent pa rin. Kumbaga, hindi dapat kami namimili ng kalaban, and I’m very happy kasi naging team effort po ito — hindi lang isa ‘yung nagtrabaho para maipanalo.”

University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses Angeline Poyos and Regina Jurado combined for 38 points in their hard-fought 25-21, 20-25, 25-13, 27-25 win against the Adamson University Lady Falcons.
Sophia Abbu contributed 10 points, while Maribeth Hilongo added five markers off the bench. On the side of the Lady Falcons, rookie-captain Shaina Nitura had 28 big points, while Frances Mordi added 13 markers.
Despite dropping a set, Golden Tigresses assistant coach Yani Fernandez said that the coaching staff was pleased with how the team performed. He said, “Very satisfied naman even if nag-four sets kami kasi nag-stick din sa game plan at inilaban ulit ng mga bata, pinusuan ulit ng mga bata ‘yung game.”

The University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses continued their winning streak against the De La Salle University Lady Spikers, 25-12, 22-25, 13-25, 25-23, 15-13, behind Angeline Poyos’s 28 points on 24 attacks and three blocks.
Regina Jurado had 17 points, while Altea contributed 10 markers. On the side of the Lady Spikers, Angel Canino had 25 points, while Shevana Laput and Amie Provido combined for 28 points.
Poyos said in her post-game interview that their trust to each other was the key to their victory. She said, “Sa game na ito, talagang ipinakita lang talaga namin kung ano kami, and yung composure namin sa court, yun talaga ang nagdala, saka yung communication. Nawala man kami nung second set, pero bumalik lang kami sa sistema at nagtiwala lang kami sa isa’t isa.”

The Adamson University Soaring Falcons limited their errors to just 14 in their 25-20, 25-15, 25-12 win against the University of the East Lady Red Warriors.
Rookie-captain Shaina Nitura had a good game with 18 points, while Frances Mordi contributed 11 markers. On the side of the Lady Red Warriors, Nessa Bangayan scored 11 points, while KC Cepada had 10.
Their cleanest game to date, Lady Falcons head coach JP Yude revealed he and the coaching staff encouraged the girls every night before their game. He said, “I always remind them na we always start sa training natin. Kung ano yung mga lapses natin, doon natin trabahuhin para madali na lang sa game kung paano yung application. And I encourage them always to set their mind every game, gabi pa lang, kung ano yung gagawin nila sa kinabukasang game.”
