The defending champions National University Lady Bulldogs, are closing in on a twice-to-beat advantage as they bounced back against the University of the East Lady Red Warriors on Wednesday.

The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws also won their game as they continued their final four mission, eliminating the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles in the process.

The Bulldogs are still on top of the standings with a 10-2 win-loss record, closely followed by the De La Salle University Lady Spikers with an 8-3 record.

The Tamaraws are in the third spot with an 8-4 win-loss record, followed by the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses at 7-4.

Still in contention for a spot in the final four are the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons and the Adamson University Lady Falcons in the fifth and sixth spots.

Unfortunately, the Blue Eagles and the Lady Red Warriors are already eliminated from contention.

Here’s everything you missed on April 9’s gameday of the UAAP Women’s Volleyball Tournament.

25-8

The National University Lady Bulldogs showed no mercy in their easy 25-8, 25-22, 25-12 victory against the University of the East Lady Red Warriors. The Recto-based squad’s eight points in the first set is the lowest score so far this season.

Still missing the services of opposite spiker Alyssa Solomon, Lady Bulldogs team captain Bella Belen scored a team-high 16 points in 14 attacks and two aces. Vange Alinsug and Aishat Bello contributed nine points apiece, as the rest of the Lady Bulldogs scored a point in their 10th victory.

For the Lady Red Warriors, KC Cepada, Nessa Bangayan, and Riza Nogales scored six points apiece as they absorbed their 12th loss in as many games.

After the game, Belen admitted that it was painful when they lost to the Adamson University Lady Falcons in their last game. She said, “I’m very happy na nakabawi ‘yung team kasi medyo masakit sa part namin ‘yung nangyari last game, which is natalo kami. Lagi ko lang ni-remind ‘yung team na dapat ‘yung mga susunod na laro namin, dapat ‘yung performance namin mataas. Hindi porket ‘yung kalaban namin is lower-ranked team, mababa na rin ‘yung performance namin.”

The Lady Bulldogs still hold the top spot in the standings with a 10-2 win-loss record.

The National University will face the already-eliminated Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles on Sunday, April 14, at 1 pm. Meanwhile, the University of the East will take on the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses on Saturday, April 13, at 1 pm.

Faida Bakante once again led the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws as she scored a game-high 19 points in their 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 25-13 victory against the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles.

Bakanke had 15 attack points and 4 block points. Gerzel Petallo contributed 13 points in 11 attacks, while Chenie Tagaod added 12 points.

For the Blue Eagles, Alexis Miner scored a team-high 17 points, while Jihan Chuatico contributed 13 points.

After the game, Lady Tamaraws head coach Tina Salak admitted that both teams wanted to be in the final four. She said, “Going against Ateneo, masyadong dedicated ang Ateneo sa pagbalik nila sa Final Four. Sa amin naman, eager din kaming mag-stay sa position na ‘yun. Mahirap for us to maintain ‘yung ganong klase kasi pareho kami ng goal. It’s just a matter kung sino ‘yung may desire na makarating sa Final Four.”

With the win, the Lady Tamaraws broke from a tie in the standings with the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses as they now have an 8-4 win-loss record.

The Far Eastern University will face the Adamson University Lady Falcons on Saturday, April 13, at 3 pm. Meanwhile, the Ateneo de Manila University will take on the National University Bulldogs on Sunday, April 14, at 1 pm.
